Hi all! Its all in the title... How do I get tethered shooting to work on my S 006 in 2025 with a Mac computer?

How to set up the camera and software? How did people do back then?

Would it work with Ipad and Fotos?

Mostly, you don't. But there was a program called Leica Image Shuttle. I can't remember, but it may well be 32bit. It basically just worked as a remote release and could control some settings from the programs. But if I recall correctly, the main option was just using a hot folder in lightroom. I remember doing this. Basically triggering the shutter and then it would eventually show up in lightroom. There is no live view possible, but I figure you know that. You will need to have the special USB cable that comes with the camera, as it uses a LEMO connector on one end. Within that specific context, it works. I think you can also do without the image shuttle and just connect the camera to lightroom with a cable directly, but I could be wrong. It is not really acting as tethered, rather just using the computer as mass storage and telling lightroom to watch for new files.

The process is outlined here, for the 007 at least. The difference for the S006 is that you cannot use the tethered option in Lightroom, you just need to set it up as a hot folder: https://leica-camera.com/sites/default/files/pm-91416-QuickStart_October-2016.pdf

I know that I had an S006 and did use it "tethered" that way, so I can say that at least. The details are kind of gone, sadly.

Looks like you can download image shuttle for the S3, but it may well support the S006. Worth a try.

There were 3 iterations of the LIS - 3.6, 3.7, and 3.8.  3.6 and 3.7 allowed remote focusing on the 007, 006, and S2, with live view with the 007.  3.8 came out for the S3, but without remote focusing, and with live view, because Leica got more friendly with Capture 1.

Here is a copy of the operating instructions - ImageShuttle_3 EN-2.pdf

Dear @Stuart Richardson and @traveler11 thank you both!

I managed to find LIS 3.8 software and using th hot folder method it does work well with Lightroom, still as of 2025 and with Mac Silicon and last version of Lr I am happy to report!

for a couple of hours I thought this super rare USB cable I bought from Japan would have been just good as a rope 😅💀 ahahah….

somewhere deep in the Leica website one can also find different versions of the Lightroom plug in by Leica, which does support the Leica S006 but I couldn’t get it to work yet… but the software does detect the camera when starting a tethered session once the plug in is activated. The camera control dongle shows up with the remote shutter button but doesn’t work. It’s ok tho because LIS and Auto Import from a hot folder does work fine it seems! If I want fancy live view and super fast C1 experience I can use my SL2. This weekend I will shoot still life for a client and I am very happy to whip out my “new” S system for the job!

I will keep the .dmg file for the LIS preciously.

cheers!

I think i may but I couldnt get it to work. It did detect the camera but couldnt transfer the pictures.

Using the Shuttle and the hot folder worked well for me. Send me your email and I can share both with you (Shuttle and Lr plugin)
