The Ultron 75/1.9 is a great little lens too with more contrast than the Nokton and a handy 0.5m MFD. Closer competitor is the Summicron 75/2 apo. Summicron and Ultron have a more modern rendition than Summilux and Nokton. For sharp portraits of perfect skins, i prefer Summicron and Ultron and for gentle portraits of less than perfect skins, Summilux and Nokton. YMMV.

I understand that true gentleman should carry both and use them accordingly, those less well off are to use soft filters when needed.

I’ll probably settle for ultron as I prefer smaller lenses, close focusing and refuse to use soft filters, and eventually will get a nokton too.

I am in similar situation trying to decide which lens will take over after I retire my 75/2.5 color heliar, I am a bit torn between nokton (I was really hoping for more petzvalish/biotaresque character from this one) and close focusing, smaller ultron 75/1.9.

... then it would have been worth taking a look at the 75 Classic-Heliar, which I prefer to the Color-Heliar for portraits. I have and enjoy using both.

Thanks so much.  Very useful info. I do like a contrasty lens. Best IB

Wow. It’s getting pretty detailed now. I’ve got some research to do.  Thank you for the details. Much appreciated   Regards  IB

I am trying to narrow my selection, classic heliar has everything I don’t want- size, not so minimum mfd.

My favourite 75mm meanwhile is the Thypoch Simera 75/1.4 ASPH. But on a M7, the chance to get a perfectly focused portrait at f/1.4 will be pretty small. So I agree that a used 75mm Summarit could also be a good choice.

I seem to have a problem nailing the focus on a 50mm at f16 !!!

@thedirektor i shoot mainly with the 7Artisans 75mm f1.25. it is too 'dreamy' wide open for my tastes, but has it has the right balance at around f2.8. the lens is very cheap (esp used copies), but it is also very large and very heavy. not really suited for causal walkaround... more tailored for studio or location shoots

i take the Ultron 75mm f1.9 if need something more compact. it is a very small lens and has a short focus throw. this may be good or bad depending on how you like to shoot. im more accustomed to the longer throw on the 7A

7A at f2.8
