Hi all!

Been using this summitar for the past few months and I’m getting a ton of flaring even when using a hood. This even happens in situations where I wouldn’t expect flare. Is this a haze issue? I’ve looked in the lens using the flashlight test, but I don’t think I see any haze. The flaring is almost always in the same spot, regardless of lighting conditions.

I’ve been capping the lens between shots. I haven’t noticed any holes in the curtain, but I will check thoroughly after finishing the roll that is currently in the camera. Some frames have come back completely leak free, so I'm not sure what prompts it and what doesn’t.

I think that your light leak hypothesis is correct. The inner hood was originally chrome. I painted it matte black, and still had the issue occurring. I just looked back at some of my negatives and noticed that sometimes even the area around the sprocket holes is exposed in that same spot, which would suggest a light leak I think. Not sure how to remedy this exactly because this camera doesn’t use any foam light seals. (Nicca iii-L)

If the light leaks extend past the picture area there’s a big chance its source is somewhere on the back of camera. From picture you attached I’d look for two holes one in top one at the bottom almost mid frame. So around hinges and near the baseplate

When did Leica produce a Summitar for the digital L-mount?

If adapted to the SL - why would the SL digital camera's metal shutter get burned though from a missing lens cap?

What is "past the picture area" for a digital photo?

😜
