@Dazzajlbefore Leica, I had the gfx50r. I was rather satisfied but traded it for Leica. Don’t want to step backwards now.

After a full day in the sun, my mind at current says following: buy the cfv50ii from your Leica dealer with one/two lenses. It will give me the flip screen and the waistlevel experience and 50mp is enough. As x1d ii are plenty around, i can always add this on top.

Ofcourse, for slightly more I have a new x2d, but for my mind, it is too much. I will be too careful. I don’t want to be mentally blocked to use my camera.

Heck, my Q43 was expensive and I managed to drop it on a stone floor (no damage, except the hood). I didn’t mind, as I had a backup with a M.

If I buy a x2d, it would be all I have (in that system)… I guess this paranoia comes from being a wedding photographer: always have a backup for the backup…

So, today I traded my SL2s for an as new 45p plus some cash, bought 2 spare batteries and the loader and a barely used xcd135mm from my Leica dealer.

He made me a nice offer for the x2d as well, but I still believe this will be too much (for me). As I have a nice offer for a x1d ii as well, I guess I go that route. Difference is almost 6000€ which can buy me a nice set of lenses, or a 907x on-top.

The main usage for this system will be long exposure, so ibis, af is all not relevant to me. 50mp is more than enough when one doesn’t need to zoom in, which I don’t intend to do.

To me, this set won’t be a one lens travel kit. It will be used on a tripod mostly, except for some fun xpan type of shoots.

decisions, decisions…

Congrats on your decision; most importantly it’s what suits your use case.

For me, and many will disagree, I prefer high mp and ibis because of the travel landscapes taken, usually at mid apertures, often cropping is needed, and rarely there’s time to stay still and setup a tripod for more precise framing

Just changed out the SL2 + some lenses for the GFX100RF as the one camera/lens solution. I do plan to add a used SL3 mainly for the M lenses (kind of spooked by the stories around M11 and variants so will wait for M12). Despite the X2D setup is the one liked the most, will carefully evaluate when the SL3 is in possession. If the IQ is close, might reduce some XCD lenses, or perhaps the X2D altogether to reduce weight. But the latter is not likely as there’s no plan to add APO L mount lenses (and that’ll just add weight/bulk back) and my guess is the SL3+M lenses won’t be the equivalent relative to color and resolution.

I really think you'd be very very happy with the colours from the 50sii. It's an incredible camera, handles beautifully and is my personal fave from the GFX lineup when judging on the look of the files. I don't think that you'd enjoy it though. Obviously you'd need one in hand to truly know but going on the cameras you've said you like, your shots and the way you describe shooting them, I think you might find it too clinical.

And a few words. Fuji 50 and 100 are great cameras (especially GFX 100 v.2), for work it simply has no equal. Original and non-original lenses, waterproof, cost - all this is like Toyota, you will definitely get to your destination. Landscape, architecture, real estate, portrait - everything except active sports and underwater photography (although this is also possible) - you can do everything with Fuji. God, but how boring with Toyota))

Well, if I ever need to buy a car I would like to have an old Toyota pickup. For sure much more fun then many other european cars…

Truest statement I've read in a long time, I couldn't agree more about the picture comparison, almost any modern camera and lens is more than capable of returning top quality images today.

I can't agree. You can see a lot - the same lens (for example 50 noctilux 0.95) works completely differently on Sony and Leica with different colors. And you can see it. I'm not even talking about different lenses. Of course, you can change the color in the editor. You can even not take a photo, but use AI.

  • 3 weeks later...

Today it is a rainy day, so I used it to (re-)edit some long exposures for a new project I will be working on the coming years.

I edited 25 images made with a fuji (mostly gfx50r, but some of a xt2), 22 from the SL2 and 3 last week taken with the x1dii. They all hold up incredibly well with processing. I might need to redo some taken with the Leica, as I used a circular filter which seems to been dirty. Certain areas in the images are waxed out, which I partially managed to correct but on some images some soft spots are visible.

The fuji’s were great for their tiltable screens, the hasselblad for its interface for long exposures, and the SL will not be used anymore for long exposures. That said, it did produce some great images, but it just took him some time.

Today I picked up the second part of my new system. I am rather complete do a 65/90 mm might still be added.

Followed the advice of @hansvons and sold today my last piece of kit what was a surplus.

HI Olaf - maybe also take a look at the relatively new 75. Nice focal length between 45 and 135.

Thanks, but I decided to stick with the older lenses as they are more sharper in the corners. As I will mostly do landscapes, I guess the older lenses are fine (and relatively cheap second hand).

They are wonderful. The 65 is great for landscape, actually. If you already have it don't worry. Else, maybe compare the MTF of the 65 and the 75. The 75 is significantly lighter and there is no rubber to come loose ...

Just bought a 65mm, the price was rather attractive so I picked it up.

Last weekend I was processing some portraits I made in spring. Due to work I didn’t manage to do them before.

Though I do not regret selling of the 2s and some lenses to fund my system change, I am very happy I decided to stick with the SL plus Lux for portraits. Yes, it is an additional setup, but it delivers. The SL system is great.

I like the colors from my X1d MKII . As a photo hobbyist I pretty much keep everything I like.

Leica m240p, M10 for M and screw mount  and R lenses

Leica SL for all my Leica R lenses collection (they're so cheap nowadays) and M lenses. Thinking of upgrading to SL2 so I can use my all my TL lenses (lighter to carry)

Hasselblad X1D mk II with the 21mm (ultimate and widest for landscape) and 45mm (35mm equivalent for all shots)

Food for thoughts.
