The best uses for black mist filters are either with bright lights, especially in evening or nights, it spreads out the light in a diffused orb, or maybe to accentuate a misty scene, or lastly shooting into the sun, creating a haze.

I like them. I find the Urth system best, optically never seems to degrade the image and always clean look to them, and importantly its magnetic.

Thorstens shade for the Q is perfect for filter swapping without having to take off the hood. The only one that works I have found

I don't really understand paying thousands for a camera with an extremely sharp lens, then blurring it (to look like film) with a filter.

You’re not really blurring it as such. The mids and shadows stay largely the same. Just the highlights bloom, still retain detail but lost contrast.

But Al saying you can do it in photoshop instead is mostly right.

I've now tested the B+W White Mist filter and the B+W Black Mist filter from Tekiac. And I'm really happy with them.

Interestingly, the White Mist filter can be used anytime, just like a clear filter. However, in bright light, it produces better images than the clear filter. So I'm happy with the B+W Tekiac filters. And I save time with Photoshop and other software to edit images.

So it is worth 😀

Thank you for your trust in TeKiac and B+W products. We now offer a complete B+W Ultra Slim filter series for the Leica Q3 43. You may also be interested in the new ND filter? And you're absolutely right, the White Mist filter is underrated. Many customers use this filter like a clear filter. And this is only possible, because of the special coating of the glass surface. Therefore, the filter is very well suited for daily use.

Anything I can do out in the world rather than in a dark room on a computer is preferable and probably faster.  So I would, and do, shoot it both ways taking time to put the filter on if I think it might have some value.

I probably would get one if you had 1/8 either black or white mist.

1/4 is still too strong for daily usage to my taste, especially white mist 1/4 is too strong that the black tone is washed out. I probably can live with 1/4 black mist but still too strong.

Make a 1/8 and I will certainly buy one.
