Giorgio,

The combination of Visoflex III + OUBIO + ZOOAN with the head of your 135mm Hektor should focus from infinity to about 1.5m. If it only focuses to about 3m, there is definitely something wrong - are you sure that there are no other rings in the set-up?

Does your Visoflex work properly with other known adapter/lens combinations? Make sure that the mirror is seated properly; if it is out of adjustment, your focusing range will be incorrect.

As well - is the focusing screen in the Visoflex installed the right way? Shiny side up? Has anybody taken the screen out for cleaning and re-installed it incorrectly?

If you can, post a picture of the set-up here and I'll try to diagnose it for you.

Best,

Jan

Thanks Jan

Really I do not Know if the viso III works correctly . I just bought it . With a normal 50 mm lens without adapters I can focus clearly at about 10 cm and I thinks that this is correct.

Maybe is may Hector that it is wrong (I bought it on e bay for few euro and this is the first attempt to test it. Tomorrow I will test the Hector in the normal way to see if it works) . Or maybe the Zooan . What is strange to me is the full system (at infinity) is 15 mm long then the (c.a) 135 mm expected (front lens to flange)

Giorgio,

Which camera are you using the combination with? If it is an M8, checking the Visoflex should be simple - take a picture after focusing the combination and see if the image is sharp where it should be. If it is not, the Visoflex is faulty.

If you are using a film camera and have a small piece of ground glass, you should be able to check it as well:

  • Remove the base plate, open the back door and put the base plate back on the camera, leaving the back door open.
  • Put the combination on a tripod, keeping the back door accessible, open the shutter at 'B', and keep it open with a locking cable release.
  • Open the back door, place the ground glass (or wax paper if you don't own a ground glass) on the film rails, focus the Visoflex outfit and see if the picture is also sharp on the ground glass.

You will need at least three hands holding the ground glass, focusing, and holding the back door open. Using a loupe to check the image on the ground glass will probably require a fourth hand.....:D

Again - if you can post some photos of the equipment, I may be able to diagnose more.

Best,

Jan

Hello Jan

Sorry for the Photo but probably I’m the only man in this Planet that do not own a Digi camera ( only a minx 11, 2 leica, 1 hasselblad, 1 Rolleiflex, a toyo 4 x 5 and a Toyo 8 x 10 but not a Digi camera).

For the focal plan I just bought a bellow II that I hope to receive next week . Probably with the bellow I can do some test (without to train may wife for the extra hand).

This sickness for the macro is new for me.

Looking around in some forum I read that somebody for this problem (exactly the some combination) was questioning the use of the Zooan (the Zooan use is not a Zooan bat a “like zooan” (but no conclusion) )

It helps to remove the back door (one of the hinge pins is a little spring-loaded bolt).

Can be done on all M's, all the way up to the M5 but, unfortunately not an option on the M6 or M7. The design was changed due to the gold ISO contacts between the back door and the body; I guess Leica felt that they could be misaligned, even though that would be nigh impossible.

There is a small screw in place of the spring-loaded pin on the M6 and M7 that can be unscrewed and the door can be removed that way.

Best,

I used to have high hopes that the conveniently removable back would inspire a sort of DMR for the Ms (MMR??)

Full frame of course, :)
