Wcuriosity Posted May 18 Share #1 Posted May 18 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I'm looking for advice on reusable film cassettes that are compatible with the Leica M5. From what I've read so far, the Leica IXMOO and FILCA cassettes don't work with the M5's design. I also understand that some other labyrinth-style cassettes like the Shirley-Wellard might not fit properly either. Has anyone found a reliable reusable cassette (preferably one without a felt trap) that works well with the M5? Or is the only practical option to use modern plastic/metal reloadable cassettes with felt light traps? Appreciate any insights or recommendations! Thanks,

TomB_tx Posted May 18 Share #2 Posted May 18 I think the only available compatible cassettes that work in M5 have felt seals, but I've been using that type for over 50 years without a scratching problem - just being careful to keep them clean. I've use both the metal "Kodak style" with snap-on ends (hard to find now) and plastic type with either screw-on end or the latest split case snap together type and had good results with all. Don't over think it all! The only I haven't used are crimped type commercial rolls where people tape new film on the old sub end.
Wcuriosity Posted May 18 Author Share #3 Posted May 18 Thanks a lot for the reply, Tom! Do the old Ilford cassettes fall into the "Kodal Style" category? I also stumbled upon KMZ cassettes made out of brass that should fit the bill.
