I have just found a Summarit 50mm/f2.5 in great shape, I've been looking for a good example of this lens again for some time after foolishly selling one of the same some years back, but I have a lens hood question now. This "new find" didn't come with a hood, did the original 50mm/f2.5 Summarits have a supplied hood and if so what form did they take? I can't remember or find information on that.............So if anyone can shine a light on this I'd be grateful for the information.

I really shouldn't have sold the one previously, but we do stupid things like that at times with our Leica stuff.........I really like the small footprint of the Summarit 50/2.5, it fits perfectly with my personal Leica M philosophy of not mounting large lenses and frankly with the ASA abilities of the newer M's I don't see the need for large heavy glass on the newer camera bodies. Bokeh? Not important, a meaningless obsession for my imaging.

The 2.5 didn't come with a hood - it was sold separately. Both 35 & 50 shared the same model hood, but I seldom used it on the 35 as it did fine without it. Mine has the number 12459 on it - should be the part number.  I see them on eBay at premium prices. The hood came with a plastic cap for the rectangular open end.

The 35 & 50 2.5s are a nice pair - identical size and handling. They replaced my Summicrons on the M10 where speed isn't important.

The hood replaces the thread protector ring on the lens external thread. If you have the ring keep it safe - another part hard to find.

Thank you Tom..........could I ask if you'd post a snap of the hood sometime? I am trying to find out if it's the type I dislike, too big maybe, or the type that's like the hood on the 35 APO, which I'd prefer..........Of course too expensive will quickly steer me towards a generic 39mm screw-in ventilated hood, but it would be nice to know what I'm missing!
