John Davison Posted May 15 Share #1 Posted May 15 Advertisement (gone after registration) According to the PDF Instruction Manual (page 87), when I set the camera to spot metering, the metered field is indicated by a cross. In practice, when I set my camera to spot metering, the display doesn’t change and there is no cross. Am I missing something (other than the cross!)? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

jaapv Posted May 15 Share #2 Posted May 15 Sometimes the cross which is very small hides itself in a corner

starcolony Posted May 15 Share #4 Posted May 15 (edited) Leave the lens cap on to create a black background to more easily view the tiny white +. When I change to SPOT there is a tiny white + in the center of my screen. Change to FIELD and the + disappears. good luck. rsolomon Posted May 15 Share #6 Posted May 15 move the focal point around in all directions till you notice it - Just FYI, once you pick the area where you want the focal point save it in the custom user profile so you’ll know where it is.
rsolomon Posted May 15 Share #7 Posted May 15 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a thought , confirm you are setting spot FOCUS vs spot METER. From the manual ...... EXPOSURE METERING METHODS Spot Center-weighted Multi-field AUTOFOCUS METHODS: The AF mode offers various metering methods for focusing. A successful focus setting is identified by a green frame, an unsuccessful one is shown in red. Factory setting: Multi-Field Select Focusing in the main menu →Select AF Mode →Select the desired setting (Multi-Field, Spot, Field, Zone, Tracking, Eye / Face) # 14 vs #18 below Welcome, dear visitor! John Davison Posted May 16 Author Share #8 Posted May 16 I see a cross when I set spot focus, but that’s not the problem I'm trying to address. The manual says: SPOT/FIELD METERING Both methods detect only those parts of the object that are within the relevant AF frames. The metering fields are indicated by a small frame (field metering) or a cross (spot metering). (My bold). When I set spot metering, my camera does not show a cross.
