Pixeleater Posted May 12 Share #1 Posted May 12 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've made repeated attempts to to install the latest update (SL2S_620.ifu). Used different SD cards but no luck. First time I've encountered this problem. Thanks.
Advertisement Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Hi Pixeleater, Take a look here Advice Needed: SL2S firmware installation issue-no firmware found on sd card. . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
SolarChronicle Posted May 12 Share #2 Posted May 12 Make sure the file resides in the root directory of the SD card, not inside a folder. Don't know if it matters, but I always use slot #1 for firmware updates.
Ken Abrahams Posted May 13 Share #3 Posted May 13 I had trouble with this but the SL2 S Menu shows two levels and clicking on what you think is the update initiating selection isn't active and one must click on the top selection "camera Firmware Version" where another sub selection appears to start firmware. rmgbenschop Posted May 14 Share #4 Posted May 14 Did you format the SD cards in your Leica? For me personally this was the only way to get the firmware update to work. When I format the SD card on my Mac the firmware file couldn't be found.
Pixeleater Posted May 14 Author Share #5 Posted May 14 Yes, and that worked. Did it for the SL2 and subsequently the SL2-S.

When I format the SD card on my Mac the firmware file couldn't be found. That happens if you use the Disk Utility. For SD cards you should use SDFormatter. Free download. https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/ I use an antique 2.0 GB SD card, format in SD Formatter and download the firmware directly to the card. Has not failed for the last 20 years.
rmgbenschop Posted May 18 Share #7 Posted May 18 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yea but no, I should not download and install extra software when it's not needed. Just format it in your camera and follow the instructions.

Just format it in your camera and follow the instructions. That software is not "extra". It is the official formatting tool by the SD Association to restore the SD card to factory settings - an essential tool for anybody who uses SD cards. The camera format is limited. It just wipes the card and inserts the camera folders. But it does not check and -if needed- restore the memory structure.
