JLV Posted May 11 Share #1 Posted May 11 Advertisement (gone after registration) WIth 6.2.0 firmware The P and S mode have disappeared. I can only switch from A to M. I reset the camera and started again to set my customisation of the buttons but still no option to get S and P. Does anybody could figure what is happening and if I did something wrong? Thanks for taking time to answer.
Advertisement Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Hi JLV, Take a look here P and S mode disappear with new SL2S firmware ! HELP! . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Photoworks Posted May 11 Share #2 Posted May 11 Are you using an M lens?
JLV Posted May 12 Author Share #3 Posted May 12 Yes, coded and also non coded. I just tried with the 35 Cron SL and I have all the modes! A friend who uses a 50 mm Cron R has all the modes with a SL2S too.. Best,
Chris Nebard Posted May 12 Share #4 Posted May 12 I think Photoworks (post #2) is alluding to the fact that, if you attach an M lens to your SL2-S, you will automatically lose the P and S modes. The camera will only operate in Manual (M) and Aperture Priority (A) modes - ie where you change the aperture via the lens’s aperture ring. In Shutter Priority (S), where you choose the shutter speed yourself, the camera is unable to select the aperture on a manual lens. Similarly, in Programme (P) mode, the camera could not choose the aperture on a manual lens with an aperture ring. Therefore, S and P are automatically disabled when a manual M lens is attached. This applies to the previous firmware as well - you just may not have noticed it. Hope this makes sense and is helpful.
LocalHero1953 Posted May 12 Share #5 Posted May 12 P and S mode require the lens to have electronic aperture control. That's not possible with M lenses, coded or non-coded. You would not have had Pand S mode with M lenses before the update either! User error, I'm afraid!

I've not upgraded the firmware yet. And i can still select all modes with the LLL 50/2 Rigid on a Urth adapter.

I look forward to hearing how the camera controls the aperture on a manual aperture lens.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted May 12 Share #9 Posted May 12 I just can’t be bothered to check my cameras. I haven’t upgraded yet. But anyway… Even if they do display P and S modes with M lenses those modes won’t work. Likely Leica just got around to removing them for P and S modes for those who hadn’t worked that out for themselves. Paul is correct. You get A or M modes for M lenses. You never got the others regardless of the camera display. Gordon
HoodedOne Posted May 12 Share #10 Posted May 12 P mode w. MF lens (LLL 50/2) It just works like A mode. The camera is guessing aperture here. The shot was made on F2.0. I understand that this shouldn't work, but it does. I guess that's the reason why they would change it. Welcome, dear visitor! There was a way to trick the camera to go back into P by loading a profile, but that was probably a bug.

The camera can't turn the M lens aperture ring for you. Edit: as Photoworks has commented, if it displayed P previously (or now) then it's a bug. It would not have actually worked as P-mode. JLV Posted May 12 Author Share #13 Posted May 12 Thanks so much for all your answers. It obviously makes sense and sometimes you do not see what is obvious! Best regards
Jeff S Posted May 12 Share #14 Posted May 12 Be thankful there is no P mode. Now you’ll be able to think even more.
Elliot Harper Posted May 12 Share #15 Posted May 12 I never use P or S mode regardless whatever lenses I put on my SL3-S, so I never noticed these two things even existed prior to or after firmware update
