I thought it already does, the screen just shuts off until the countdown reaches 3 or 4 seconds and then lights back up with the time remaining. deekay Posted May 10 Author Share #3 Posted May 10 Mine does not do this. It would be useful to see the entire time count down.

For me during a long exposure, say 30s, the screen shows a red progress bar and the numerical countdown from 30 to 27 at which point it goes black (to save battery I assume) until the exposure reaches 3 seconds remaining at which point the screen lights back up with progress bar and numerical countdown from 3 to shutter close. The full countdown is visible on the top lcd for the entire exposure. If I’m shooting long exposures at night, this is how I’d like it to function. If during the day, the top lcd panel is certainly good enough for me.
hoolyproductions Posted May 11 Share #5 Posted May 11 I just checked this on my SL3 and it is exactly as jiggyb21 describes (I recalled the progress bar on the rear screen but could not recall the LCD behaviour so had to check). Indeed the LCD shows the full countdown. I had the same behaviour on my SL2-S camera also. AFAIK there is no setting to change this so it is very odd that the OP cannot see it. deekay Posted May 11 Author Share #6 Posted May 11 Sorry. Terminology confusion. I was referring to the rear screen where for my use case it would be nice to see the entire countdown.
hoolyproductions Posted May 11 Share #7 Posted May 11 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ah ok, fair enough. I typically shoot astro from about 4 seconds to 20 seconds and don't mind counting in my head (or simply waiting) for the brief period when the screen goes dark😃
