I acquired a Leica Q3 for travel, Street and family photography.
I will be photographing a few family events in the near future as weddings and other so I was thinking in to get a SL2-S as a complement for my Q3 when this kind of events happen but also for filming talking heads and painting tutorial in my studio for my YouTube channel.

I wonder if the SL2-S with a maybe sigma 24-70mm v2 could work for me. Maybe you have another suggestion for the camera and lenses? I would like to buy M-lenses in the future, but not right now (not sure if I’m prepared for manual focusing on those events now in the beginning, or even putting the money on those lenses right now?

any other primes or zoom I should consider?

I have an SL as the ‘companion’ for my M mono and I really like it. I only use manual focus lenses on it and it works brilliantly. The 2s should be a great choice for your video needs and personal fun too.

And you really don’t need new or modern Leica M lenses to enjoy that side of shooting. If you look around on here, just as many compelling and fabulous shots are made with far far more reasonable lenses too.

I don't know too much about M-Lenses, so I don't know which one should I get or if there are any older M-lenses that are available at a good price to use with the SL2-S... any suggestions?

There are so many- look a t Voigtlander or one of the Chinese makers or the many, many vintage ones. We can’t make the choice for you.

Are voigtlanders as good as some Leica M-lenses ones?

Yes. In my experience there are no bad M mount lenses. The price variation is more due to levels of excellence and specification.

but I thought you were hesitant to manual focus?

Oh, yes. It was just and Idea I've got from @Dazzajl. But yes, I was thinking about a zoom to begin with. Just to start things up. In the future I could incorporate a M-lens or two.

So If you had to choose between these, which one for recording simple talking head videos for youtube + family weddings and similar?

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN II ART

Leica Vario Elmarit-SL 24-70mm f/2,8 ASPH

Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90 f/2.8-4 ASPH

Others?

I have some old M Lenses from my M3 and use them sometimes.
Honestly if find focusing quite challenging if in a "hurry" but it works if i have the time to focus using focus peaking.

I got 3 Sigma lenses for my SL2 and can't complain, 14mm ART, 28mm ART 105mm Macro ART.
Sure if i would have 20K to trow on original Leica loenses they may be a tad better, but i dont want to spend such a amount for a tad better lenses.
Many say that the Contemporary series is almost equal to the ART series, the slightly higher cost of the ART series did not scared me and i bought them just to make sure that they are the best of Sigmas lineup.

The Sports series is equal to the Art series but more robust. I would buy any Sigma or Panasonic lens without qualm. With Leica the relationship between price and better IQ would enter the equation. Feel and build are quite subjective. My only criterion would be fit for my purpose.

The main difference between Contemporary and Art lenses is mechanical, things like less elaborate weatherproofing and such. There are some optical quality differences as well, but mostly minor.

Bought the Leica SL2-S with the Signa 24-70 Art DN II. That was exactly the same camera and lenses I had a few months ago and that I sold because Im an idiot.
I jumped from brand to brand thanks to the hype and technology wagon just to understand that the Q3 (I had the Q2 before) and the SL2-S were a pleasure to use. I love those machines!

Someday I will get back the M10…

My "A rig" is an SL3 with the SL 24-90 Elmarit, which I use in conjunction with my Q3.  I use this setup whenever I travel.  I shoot the SL3 during the day in conjuction with the Q3.  At night, I take a smaller sling bag and only the Q3, when we're out to dinner or on the town.

For street, or my portrait work,  I use either the SL3 or tie S1RII with various other lenses from Leica, Lumix and Sigma.  I really love the L mount system and looking forward to flexing the AF of the new S1RII with some wildlife andnair show shooting over the coming weeks.
