Richard Sawicki Posted April 14 Share #1 Posted April 14 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you so very much for allowing me to become a member of your very knowledgeable group. I am a new member to the Leica family having just acquired a mint condition (built in 2023) Leica SL-2.The camera is absolute work of art. I have previously experienced time with the Nikon Z, Panasonic S Fuji X-H and Pentax K1 series all the while looking for the camera I could "relate to". Gentleman, I feel like I have found it in my SL-2, a camera I have looked at and desired for the past 4 years. Like all the others, I realize there is a learning experience and I am now in a great group with lots of experience, thanks. I would greatly appreciate help in one problem area. When I try to customize photo profiles with contrast, sharpness or saturation. I put in the +/- and hit the check mark, but after turning the camera off the applied changes do not hold. What else do I need to do? Thanks in advance for your help, it is greatly appreciated.

Richard Sawicki Posted April 14 Author Share #3 Posted April 14 Thanks jaapv I appreciate your very prompt response. After making adjustments the photo profiles I have tried to go immediately into page 4 used profiles and scrolled down to "manage profiles" and "saved as profile". Unfortunately nothing has been saved even though I have tried that action several times over the past couple of days.
jaapv Posted April 15 Share #4 Posted April 15 After saving your profile you must open it when starting the camera. It will revert to the default profile otherwise. Richard Sawicki Posted April 15 Author Share #5 Posted April 15 Thanks again, I really appreciate your help. Watched the video a few times and followed it also a few times . Unfortunately still no savings of the photo profiles. You had mentioned "After saving your profile you must open it when starting the camera". Just for clarification. I made my color changes in the photo profile (making saturation to +2 for vivid only). Saved it by hitting the checked mark to the right. then I went to page 4 ...profiles. I am active on profile 2 for this test. I then saved the profile. I then exported the profile to save it on the SD card. I shut off the camera and then restarted it leaving it on Profile 2. Double checking by pressing the figure on the main screen to make sure it was profile 2. Unfortunately the changes I make to the color (adding saturation to +2 for the test) were not there. Saturation was zero for profile 2. Help again...and really appreciated
jaapv Posted April 15 Share #6 Posted April 15 Are you using jpg? I wouldn’t know whether those settings are part of a user profile, not having used jpg out of camera ever. That is the last 25 years. Somebody else will have to answer that.
Richard Sawicki Posted April 15 Author Share #7 Posted April 15 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello jaapv, Thanks, Yes, I am currently set for jpg only on the camera. This camera is new to me and I wanted to keep all the numerous test pictures smaller in size. Thanks for your help, greatly appreciated.
jaapv Posted April 15 Share #8 Posted April 15 My advice would be to set the camera to DNG + JPG and modify parameters like AF, ISO, etc from the default profile ( don’t forget to switch them on ) and the Fn buttons, wheels etc and save that as your first user profile. You can always resave modifications, create specific profiles etc. That way you will be setting the camera to your use over time. Forget about modifying output. That is what postprocessing is for, at any rate this is the way I broke the camera in, adding settings and new discoveries
Richard Sawicki Posted April 17 Author Share #9 Posted April 17 Thanks a lot jaapv, I really appreciate you very knowledgeable responses over then past couple of days. I will back up and try you latest suggestions and then proceed to add more changes. Playing with the camera the past couple of days, I can honestly say I really do love it. The more simplistic Leica SL 2 menu vs my Nikon 6Z and Panny S5 is wonderful. Thanks again for you patience and help, it is all greatly appreciated. Looking forward for my own "new discoveries." A little explanation about my earlier statement about having it set up initially for just JPG. We do a lot of foreign travel, averaging 5 to 6 major trips per year the past 20+ years. We are fortunate in having visited all 7 continents and 79 countries so far. I try to send out "dailys" to my family and friends. No time for post processing while traveling this way so I try to set up the color profiles to achieve the different looks I want to get with the JPG which are sent out daily. That is why I was so interested in setting up the SL2 for different color profiles. Thanks again for listening and helping.
Richard Sawicki Posted April 17 Author Share #10 Posted April 17 PS to earlier note. We have been fortunate to have visited the Netherlands on 4 different tours/vacations during our travel experiences. WE LOVED every one of the visits. A fantastic country with a great history and wonderful people. We are planning to be there again in 2026 for Christmas markets. 2025 is already scheduled for Sweden, Helsinki followed by the Arctic circle. 2024 was Norway, Oslo and up the coast to the the Arctic circle. We love Christmas Markets in many countries. 12 years ago was a river cruise throughout Holland and Belgium, once again loved the Christmas Markets..and meeting "Black Pete" and Santa while there. Great chatting with you. Rick

I understand - I am a person who always carries a camera (or more) - but for social media stuff I prefer my iPhone 😉. And thank you for your kind words.
SolarChronicle Posted May 1 Share #12 Posted May 1 After you make the changes to the JPG settings (contrast, saturation, sharpness, etc.) go to menu page 4, scroll down to "Manage Profiles" and toggle right. Then toggle right again on "Save as Profile". Pick a spot (User 1, 2, 3...) to save the profile. Then, go back to "Manage Profiles" and toggle "Rename Profiles" and rename the profile (User 1, 2, 3...) that you just created.
