wlaidlaw Posted April 16 Author Share #21 Posted April 16 Advertisement (gone after registration) My versionCC is accessing the Adobe Server with no problems. I do not run a VPN. The setting I would like to change is on how the update works. My updates currently leave old debris behind and I would like this cleared at each and any update. None of the locations I have clicked on take me to somewhere I can change how the updates operate. Lightroom is updating as it should and does not leave old debris behind. It is Photoshop and Bridge where the problem occurs. Wilson
Advertisement Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Hi wlaidlaw, Take a look here Adobe Photo package is not good at updating, always leaving loads of old software debris behind. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
PhotoCruiser Posted April 16 Share #22 Posted April 16 (edited) The i can't help you as i never got the error window you posted. Marchyman wrote before how it works to set that old version/s get deleted after a automatic update. Not sure if the next update will delete all old versions you have, you may have to delete them manually. Chris This works for Photoshop and Camera Raw, but not for Lightroom Welcome, dear visitor! LocalHero1953 Posted April 16 Share #23 Posted April 16 @wlaidlaw, I checked this last night. Those update settings only become visible after you have clicked on 'Auto-Update'. Since I don't normally permit Auto-Update for any software (I usually go for 'download and notify' if it's an option), I couldn't see it previously either. So I permitted 'Auto-Update', selected the suggested 'Remove previous versions' options, then cancelled 'Auto-Update'. I have no idea if it will work or not. I also had a collection of folders for previous versions of Photoshop - now deleted.

wlaidlaw Posted April 16 Author Share #25 Posted April 16 Like Paul, I update manually. However when I clicked on auto-update and went to look at the advanced options, remove older versions was already ticked. I presume that this does not work if you update manually, so I have changed to auto-update. Wilson

Now it is set for all three. Thanks! To use that well-worn phrase - every day is a school day 😀
marchyman Posted April 16 Share #27 Posted April 16 Advertisement (gone after registration) Adobe does confuse. I have auto update turned on. However, my apps don't auto update. Or perhaps I'm just too impatient to wait for them to auto update. What happens on my machine is I get a red dot on the CC icon in my menu bar when updates are available. I open CC, go to updates, and either select what I want to update or hit the update everything button.

Yes, that is what i wrote, and Lightroom has no extra setting to remove older Versions as Photoshop has. vor 14 Stunden schrieb marchyman: Adobe does confuse. I have auto update turned on. As i don't use cloud stuff or other things what need the app to run always i will disable autostart and check for updates manually every now and then. I presume that this does not work if you update manually, so I have changed to auto-update. I checked my SSD and could not find old LRC or Photoshop Versions even if i had "Delete old Version" not ticked, but old Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements Directories with data in /library/Application Support/Adobe. Those files probably are left overs from a imperfect uninstall as i don't have installed anymore either of the Adobe Elements software. I suggest you to use a 3rd party software like CleanMyMac or similar to see if it can delete the older versions, check in the various directories if ther is a uninstall software or delete the directories manually. And then have a eye on it if new remains appear after you do a LRC or PS update. However, unfortunately those software corpses are nothing new or Adobe related, many software have bad programmed uninstall programs who leave files on the disks. This is one reason that i suggest to do a clean install every now and then (i do that in case of problems or about every 1-2 years) as this will get rid of those corpses scattered all over the disk, occupy space and maybe memory too if still loaded or running.
