mpauliks Posted March 29 Share #1 Posted March 29 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, is there a way to adapt the Noctivid 8x42 binoculars to a camera, preferred M or SL? Thank you!
Advertisement Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Hi mpauliks, Take a look here Camera Adapter for Binocular Noctivid 8x42?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mpauliks Posted March 30 Author Share #2 Posted March 30 So far, I found something like this here: https://www.balistas.com/binocular-adapters But seems they do not offer for the Leica binoculars.
mpauliks Posted March 31 Author Share #3 Posted March 31 Leica answered, that they are not aware on an adapter solution for Noctivid. So, I tried a very first testshot ca. out of hand. For protection did use R-M-SL adapter. Noctivid was on tripod but SL3-S out of hand. Very shaky thing so far. But a double tripodmountslider is ordered, which is required to get it plain, etc. Anyway I would say, it has potential IMO! Welcome, dear visitor! mpauliks Posted March 31 Author Share #4 Posted March 31 2nd trial out of hand. W/o double tripod it is too hard to get focus on the spot. Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted March 31 Share #5 Posted March 31 I am not quite sure of the rationale behind this experiment. The results you show are low quality and all Leica binoculars will exhibit strong pillow distortion - for a very good reason but I won't bother with that now. There are adapters for scopes, which will work much better. https://leicacamerausa.com/sport-optics/accessories/accessories-by-model/

mpauliks Posted March 31 Author Share #8 Posted March 31 @jaapv Thank you Jaap! Sure it is an experiment. Primary purpose stays for the Zoo here as regular binoculars. But loving it, when I look through it. So far this kind of adaption did not cost anything but the tripod mount for the Noctivid which is useful too e.g. when comfortable looking at the sky with binoculars. Tripod mount is right now 100.- EUR. Double Tripod slider costs again. I think it is worth it to check it out and results so far are not too bad IMO. Even now when using not a stable solution that ensures plain focal, which is needed. But at the end it is for fun, for some close-ups with a special look and finally for the Moon
mpauliks Posted April 2 Author Share #9 Posted April 2 Still not perfect in focal planes being parallel and this construction is still really heavy to adjust. A real adapter would be great, because the results are not too bad IMO. Super great would be double adapter for 3D images! Those kind of adapters have been made in the past to my knowledge, I think for Contarex or so. Anyway though Noctivid is intended for nature, I am surprised, how good this still suboptimal set-up comes out! Halo to moon is for sure due to the still not parallel sitting focus planes. PS Moon image is processed in LR PS. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! mpauliks Posted April 3 Author Share #10 Posted April 3 Finally here a processed testimage at daylight with the combination above. I conclude it depends on subject, where you want to use it. As it is a binocular, it shows "binocular" effects. Bite sharp at center, soft at edges. Welcome, dear visitor! Well, it is so unsharp that seeing what camera this is requires a double-take.

Well, it is designed for binocular as target, as you said. Center is really really sharp! You cannot really see here at forum post. Loving the bokeh here! But your idea with double takes for other images, is a great one. Opens a next playfield for experiments lol Thank you Jaap and have a nice weekend! mpauliks Posted April 14 Author Share #16 Posted April 14 I got me this to adapt my smartphone to the binoculars. It is adjustable for the occular size and has a bluetooth shutter device too. Did not try so far, but it fits. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08M3W8S4L?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=
