An interesting review, not many out there from 'real' people with real use experience.

This camera has been on my radar for a while and part of a wheel of indecision I seem to be stuck in. Such is the first world problem of wanting another camera I don't actually need.

Thanks, I’m hoping to give a more real world perspective. I get indecisive about what to get and it helps whenever I can find insight that are not just about pixel peeping.  You should try to rent it for a few days and see how you feel about it.

Agree on your assessment as it relates to low light. Additionally i have the ‘auto lens’ cap and find it impracticable to use filters. These two are probably my biggest cons on the D Lux 8. 
 

On the plus side I find it a perfect companion with my M. The weight and convenience can’t be overstated. Yes it doesn’t fit in your pocket- I’ve found the moment 2 L  as my EDC to include the D Lux 8 to be just right for me. The M and 2-3 lens  is too big for EDC - 8 hits my target. 

My personal debate was Q vs D lux 8 to go along with my M. I determined that the M and Q were close in many respects and the M and Dlux were dynamically and dramatically different- which is what I wanted  - another and companion experience. 

This ofcouse a choice, when I take a 2 lens kit for my M it’s never 35 &50, it’s 35 & 75.. or something providing a completely different experience. 
 

For me these larger gaps, different perspectives adds to my experience and enjoyment of the journey

On my current trip to Japan, S. Korea and China, I brought the DL8, SL3 (with APO 28 & 35) and the M11 (with an APO 50). I just did not want to carry the SL 24-90 all day. 85% of my 2000 photos (so far) are with the SL3 (mostly 28mm). 10% with the DL8 and 5% with the M11. The DL8 is the perfect camera to give to a 3rd person to take photos of my wife and I. It's also the camera my wife wants to use. I also used the DL8 when I wanted to take the lightest/smallest camera. The DL8 does a pretty good job in good light......sometimes a very good job. Obviously, the DL8 resolution, when cropped, can't compare to the M11 and SL3. In summary, I was worried if I would be satisfied with the DL8's results and the answer is I am glad I have this camera. It is a must have for my kit. I know when to use it and when another choice is better.

Yes , I'm loving mine , I didn't realise how useful the rear touchscreen was , kept fiddling with the photo / video options and buttons then discovered you can change everything with a flick of your finger !!!
