Chris Akin Posted March 27 Share #1 Posted March 27 Advertisement (gone after registration) The attached picture was taken in 1976 with a 6x9 format camera. I'm guessing it was a Mamiya Press. I would really like to know the focal length of the lens that was used to take the picture. I have a Leica S3, and I'm hoping to determine which S lens will provide an equivalent field of view. John McMaster Posted March 27 Share #2 Posted March 27 AFAIR 127mm was the standard lens on that camera, so the S 70mm has a similar angle of view.... john
davidmknoble Posted March 28 Share #3 Posted March 28 I was thinking 70 or 100 in the S mount, but the 100 is uncommon for work such as that, so I think @John McMaster is spot on.
davidmknoble Posted March 29 Share #4 Posted March 29 So, I looked up the conversion of the focal length from this camera to a 35mm camera. The conversion is 1.97. So the 127mm is 65mm and the 100mm is 50mm. Converting those back to S lenses we divide by 0.8. So 65mm becomes 80mm and 50mm becomes 62mm. This means the 100mm and 70mm lenses are the closest to those two normal lenses on the Mamiya Press cameras.
Pieter12 Posted March 29 Share #5 Posted March 29 Plus the aspect ratio is different, so I don't know if the conversion is even valid. The image looks like a pretty "normal" perspective, I would guess the S70 would be the ticket.
John McMaster Posted March 29 Share #6 Posted March 29 Um, 6x9 is the same ratio as the S3.... john
