I really enjoy the  Leica S Apo-Macro 2.5/120 on the SL3 with the S-adapter S- to L-Mount in manual focus mode! Unfortunately the AF-mode simply doesn't work: Sometime it focuses, green +,  but i can't release the shutter. After start-up, it focuses most of the time with green + and shutter release possible. After first shot: no shutter release possible. Same problems on the SL2 and SL2-2 (that I do not habe any more).

The same lens works flawless on the S3 even in AF in near macro mode, of course within the S3-specific AF limitations. The S Apo 3.5/180 works flawless with the S-to-L-adapter on the SL3 (as on the SL2 or SL2-S in the past)!

Do you have any ideas or hints how to get the S Apo-Macro 120 working in AF mode on the SL3 ?

Update firmware on the S3, attach the Macro to update the lens.

Clean the contacts on the adapter, lens, body.

Remove cards from the camera, reformat the SD card, a full format with SD formatter.  Try cards individually.

Good luck!

I would agree with both theses posts.  @Doc_P, if you have another S lens you can try on the SL3 and S-L adapter, you would learn a lot.  If not, if you have a Leica store near, you could likely try one if they happen to have any used or otherwise.  The fact that it works on your S3 leads me to believe it is S lens firmware or contacts as @darylgo said, but using another S lens rules out an adapter failure.

When you use it in manual mode, does the image EXIF say it is the correct lens?

Thanks Daryl for the hints. I tried, failed unfortunately! Maybe a case for the repair shop...

Thanks David! Firmware is actual. The S 70 and the S 180 work flawless on the adapter on the SL3. Maybe a case for the Leica service...

I am not sure I can help here, but I can say that I used this lens on the SL2 with the adapter and it worked flawlessly, so I think the issue must be with your lens or equipment, not with all examples of the lens.

Stuart, thanks! Good to hear that it worked for you. Seems to be complicated (maybe a current limitation problem), since the S Apo 120 works on the S3 and the S 180 and S 70 via Adapter on the SL3...
