malheur72 Posted January 6, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) The focus on my elmar 3.5 5cm is stuck on infinity. Hopefully it just needs a cleaning and lubrication. Since the repair expense is an important consideration, is there a forum member willing to do the work for a fee less than a professional would charge? Or I would appreciate the name of a reasonably priced repair service. Thank you, Jim
Advertisement Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Hi malheur72, Take a look here stuck elmar 5cm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted January 6, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 6, 2008 Obvious thing first, you are pushing the infinity lock in before trying to turn the lens aren't you? The lens isn't damaged i.e. it's not been dropped? Assuming that's not it, have you used the lens recently? If its been a while since it's been used, it might just need a little bit of force to free it up - possibly the grease has dried out a bit and causing it to stick - and then apply some very light grease to the threads. Failing the above, a service from any local camera repairer for this shouldn't be much money.
malheur72 Posted January 7, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted January 7, 2008 James - Thank you for the suggestions. I got the lens unstuck. I had released the infinity lock but hadn't applied enough force to overcome the hardened grease. Jim

Sounds like your going to have some problems focusing with hardened grease .. so try this .. it may help. Spray some WD-40 into a clean glass jar . used jam jar type of thing ..and dip a cotton bud into the oil .. and apply a very small amount onto the treads (theres about 3mm of tread protruding on the Elmar when in the locked position) unlock and rotate fully, wipe off the oil with a clean lint free cloth and then apply a little more oil .. same idea rotating the treaded mount ring . Eventually it should produce a nice smooth action. Do not regrease .. it should be o'k as it is .. Hope this helps.. Noel
