Brad55 Posted March 11 Share #1 Posted March 11 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica advises that the lens cap which comes with the D-Lux 8 should be tethered to the strap mount for security. However if the lens cap is so tethered and left on the lens whilst the camera is turned on, the lens cap can prevent the lens from extending fully. This happened to me a couple of times. Each time the lens immediately aborted full extension and retracted fully. I have ceased tethering the lens cap and the camera seems to be operating perfectly ok. Can anyone reassure me that the lens mechanism will not have been damaged. I assume that these things are tested for (cameras can be turned on in bags etc) and that the motors sense the resistance and automatically abort the extension. Any thoughts ? GFW2-SCUSA Posted March 12 Share #2 Posted March 12 I experienced the same thing with my D-Lux type 109. I doubt it harmed the motor at all. I quickly learned to pop off the cap prior to turning on the camera. I solved the issue by getting the auto lens cap which works very nicely. They are good cameras and I don't baby mione at all and it has worked flawlessly over the years. I also got the hand grip which makes holding the little camera very comfortable.
