I doubt it would be M43 (LX100 III), since it would be overlap with Leica DLUX 8 too close. I also doubt it would be Full Frame prime. Would it be APS-C? a more compact XV? A modern version of the GM5 paired with the Leica 15/1.7 would hit the market running ( last micro-sized m43 with rangefinder style EVF. Only 99 x 60 x 36 mm ). Below from my G100D with Summilux 15/1.7 as a B camera. This camera is small, with the same EVF as the D'lux-8, but not so pocketable due to the EVF SLR style hump. Welcome, dear visitor! Einst_Stein Posted March 8 Author Share #4 Posted March 8 Then we can be sure it won’t be a M43 + 15mm/1.7 Compact might be the key word, but a Fujifilm x100 and Ricoh GR have made the prime ASP-C crowded, Leica Q has take two space of FF prime and D8 the M43 zoom. Fujifilm is going to take the 44x33 prime ( still compact in its own sense). A some kind of zoom may make sense, M43 or APS-C or FF, but must be compact. The expert response to SL2S and SL3S already indicates the importance of per pixel performance is more welcome than the total pixel count. Going over 24 or at most 36 MP in FF is almost for sure a marketing smoke. That can be translated to 50~70MP for MF. Maybe it's time to think how to merge multiple MP to mimic a large MP. That way if the total MP is overdo, users can use merge MP mode to cover both advantages. Back to Panasonic new fixed lens camera, I guess it could make sense to make it MF. It would not, or less, likely to face the hard competition against Leica Dlux 8 or Qx. Maybe, eventually, it would become a pre-S4. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Only problem i had with both of my LX100 was dust sucked inside the lens when zooming, but thats a problem of many compacts with retractable zoom lenses. Surprisingly this happened on both cameras who lived and worked 90% inside a rather dustless underwater housing. I think a LX100 Mark III with zoom lens would be the better decision than pushing in the fixed lens market, except the non removable lens is non collapsible IF zoom lens as this would reduce/solve the dust problem, but then the camera will be bulky. I doubt Panasonic would change their mind so fast. A P&S with APS-C, FF or even MF should have much larger market opportunity, i.e. ROI (Return Of Investment).
