Perhaps people interested in a smaller body are not interested in these two lenses.

I mean, I don't see this kind of argument from Sony A7C users.

Umm, but Leica makes these lenses for this mount …

Then they can buy the standard SL3 if they so wish.

Again, I don’t see A7C owners complaining about the Sony 200-600, why would this be a problem for Leica users?

For some of us, yes.

Of course. Understandable. But I am more curious how many people don't care, especially when the M-like SL camera is working on people's hands that has all the functional advantages of SL.

Yes, some people are arguing why M needs IBIS, why M needs AF, why M needs this and that.

Leave them alone.

I guess if people are happy with their Sonys, why should Leica be interested.  There’s a lot about Sony cameras that’s different from Leica cameras - just about everything, actually …

Please don’t distort what I said.
I said that a smaller SL camera is possible via a more photo friendly S9, and that the “but what about my 9kg super zoom” is an argument that doesn’t make any sense. There’s a market for both a standard size SL camera AND a smaller one. It’s not an either/or situation.

Sure they can. All they have to do is to add a mechanical shutter and a EVF to the Panasonic S9.

But they would also need to develop a new line of smaller primes, which is not so unthinkable. The last Leica-original lens was the 21mm, and with the APO line now complete, there's space to introduce a new line of lenses. Unless they want to leave that slice of the market to Sigma, of course.

There is definitely a space in the line up for the camera as you have described [in T styling - a modern Leica....] and would probably do quite well I imagine.

If you be open minded, you should see a lot of people are expecting SL with CL or M form factor, or M with SL like functionality. Of course not every M user and SL user are among them, but there are a lot.

The Sony argument from Simon_Df is just a counter argument against your large zoom argument. Read it again.

Indeed. The T and CL lines unfortunately suffered from some poor design decisions, compounded by really bad marketing. But a full frame variant in 2025 could be a success, especially for people coming from a Q looking for more flexibility

But for such a system Leica would have to tweak SL technology significantly. Like adopting Panasonic/ Sigma AF fully.

Which is what they are doing with all the rebadged lenses anyway.

Maybe, but I am not sure that for instance Leica’s 70-200 AF matches Sigma’s. Does Leica have the dual AF motors?
This review suggests to me that it has not as the Sigma draws positive comments on its AF performance which I can only confirm from experience.

To answer op question: in my opinion, as a tech corp, most likely they can…but why to abandon highly marked up manual focus m lenses line…btw which are updated once in blue moon and they still keep selling regardless

Different market segments. Not everyone is interested in manual focus lenses, and often are purchased alongside an autofocus lens. I often use both AF and manual lenses depending on what I’m shooting and what I want to achieve

I think the OP is, perhaps, referring to an α7CR type camera. Incidentally, the a7CR is now Sony's best selling body... Maybe Leica would be wise to consider an SL variant and a digital M, both of which could be based on the same chassis.

People are asking EVF on M for a long time, somehow some Leica defenders jumped out saying no no that is impossible, that is no good, there is no need, blah blah blah.
Similarly, people were asking IBIS on SL, somehow some Leica defenders jumped out saying no no, that is impossible, that is no good, there is no need.  Blah blah blah.
Similarly, people are asking SL like functionality, or M like SL, somehow some Leica defenders jump out saying Nono, …blah blah blah.

Guess what?
