keeping_a_balance Posted March 17 Share #101 Posted March 17 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have yet to find a lcd that does not have glare issues. I mean the SL3, Q series and M's on the back are useless in bright light. Yes you have the evf in most of those. I also have the sony a7cr, that is a very bad viewfinder and LCD is also unusable... I have only heard of one person on the forum saying that the Nikon Zf had a useable lcd in bright light, not sure how true or not. I have pre-ordered the BF and will see how it goes in real life. have a feeling due to limited supply should get decent re-sale value if it's really that bad. This is what I mean about LCD visibility being a personal issue. Even though in this country we have bright sunlight sometimes, I have found the LCDs of the M9, M240, TL2, CL, SL, SL2 all bright enough for their intended purposes: menu control and image review, plus (for cameras without a VF) framing and composition with AF lenses. I would not think of using them to pixel peek or check the precision of manual focus - but then I pixel peek at home, and prefer to use manual focus lenses on cameras designed for that purpose (i.e. a M).
Chris W Posted March 17 Share #103 Posted March 17 I never use Leica screens, except to check the odd image already taken. I can tell you I owned screen only Sigma products for years - FP, Merrill 1 & 2 and without an EVF they were just point, shoot and hope for the best, even in the UK, but I also took them to Italy and the South Of France. You can't see the settings. You cannot focus other than point the camera at the subject and listen for the bleep and hope the camera has locked on to your intended aim. Moreover, several reviewers from a young woman to a middle aged man have all said the screen is pretty much useless outdoors. In the modern world of LED lighting, you'd think the saviour of glare on the screen would be in door photography, but then the double whammy of electronic shutter (only) often produces banding. LocalHero1953 Posted March 17 Share #104 Posted March 17 Well, I owned the fp, took photos with it outdoors, and found it OK. Not brilliant, but OK. Ditto TL2. I understood their limitations and didn't expect the same facility as a camera with an EVF.

Fair enough, but keep in mind that photographers have strong opinions about how things look. Categorically stating that you don't care how a camera looks is one of those opinions!

DadDadDaddyo Posted March 17 Share #107 Posted March 17 Advertisement (gone after registration) But it begs that essential question, once again, a question, undeniably, of primary importance.... Does this camera make me look fat?
DadDadDaddyo Posted March 17 Share #108 Posted March 17 Does it go with my ensemble?
DadDadDaddyo Posted March 17 Share #109 Posted March 17 Ooooh, my Ansel Adams hat looks really authentic!
DadDadDaddyo Posted March 17 Share #110 Posted March 17 Point is, AA (or I, for that matter) would gladly use a BF, or any other camera, whenever its characteristics matched the requirements presented by the situation. So, OK, if the camera's appearance is among those requirements for someone, I guess they should add the camera's appearance to their decision criteria. Point taken. NigelG Posted March 17 Share #111 Posted March 17 As a Silver T and TL2 owner - I’m more interested in the fact that there are now more options for silver L-mount lenses 😉

Regarding the BF, I would suspect the 24mp resolution was chosen for cost and the target demographic isn’t after top image quality. No EVF and no IBIS, and the unlikelihood of this being a tripod camera means lower ultimate resolution so why waste an expensive, high res sensor? In addition, the BF sensor is reported to have a less pronounced rolling shutter effect than the fpL.

However I was always conscious of that camera as it stood out, whereas the black is much more stealthy for street etc.

Sure, but the FP, FP-L and BF are premium priced. I'll take my chances with a mid priced camera that produces great images with no EVF, but for two grand I don't want to be compromising. Every camera is a compromise, bar none - whatever your spend. It's just a matter of which compromises are also red lines.
Chris W Posted March 18 Share #117 Posted March 18 I just want to see what I'm focussing on and what my settings are, otherwise I might as well use a phone.

I love the silver BF body but probably will get the black, as the all silver is too much [for me].
NigelG Posted March 18 Share #119 Posted March 18 I would be using the new Sigma silver lenses on the TL2 - the 50 f2 could be a winner
jrichie Posted March 18 Share #120 Posted March 18 just to help, here is the silver body and black lens I did for comparison with the all silver and all black. I just find the silver black a bit off, and the shine on the silver lens too much. Also if I were to use my black M lenses or say an Leica L mount lens with the silver body it will also have the panda look. Yes, I think about these things far too much when I should be working....... Life of a designer. Welcome, dear visitor!
