Every place I look (on-line in the USA) is either, "out-of-stock", "back ordered", or "available for pre-order".

So, in my estimation, I'd call it not really readily available.

Kinda sucks ... I really wanted a DLux-8 but since it is still un-obtanium, I ended up with a Nikon Z30 with the kit zoom for less than half the cost.

... The initial hype has died down

It seemed like the initial hype was either pretty negative or non-existent.  So, I don't really understand why the thing is still not readily available. Maybe retailers are just being super cautious with inventory management? IDK.

I was offered one by a local dealer here on the day when the camera was released. I told the sale person in this exact words: I would take it if it were less than $1000. That is what it is worth.

It’s still readily available at least to me. If I wanted one I could get it within a week.

You might want to call B&H. You might get it almost immediately or within a week. I don't know why everyplace still lists it like out of stock, though it is not.

US$1000 is what I thought it would worth. But after seeing all P&S prices, I realized the inflation is out of my imagination. Try to compare Canon G5X II or Fujifilm X100xxx, or Rocoh GRxxx, new or used.

I think the used Leica XV or any Leica X are now real bargains. They usually cost US$500~900. The other worth to try are Lumix LX7 (~USD250, 24-90mm f1.4, micro-sensor) and LX10 (~US$450, 24-72mm f1.4, 1" sensor).  Of course they might not be a direct replacement of Dlux7 or 8, but good enough compromise.

Call around the actual Leica stores and if you can, put your name on the notify lists

I picked one up from Leica SanFrancisco when they said they had none online a month back!

Thanks. Like I said, I bought the little Nikon Z30 with 16~50mm kit zoom and I'm very pleased with it.

  • 2 weeks later...

My new D-Lux 8 arrived from B&H less than 24 hours after the order was placed. It is now tricked out with the JJC grip (I want Arca capability) and a screen protector. Two 3rd party batteries arrive in a day or so.

I bought the D-Lux 8 mainly for travel and mainly for my wife’s use. She has been using my X100V. However, she wanted zoom capability. When she found out about the D-Lux 8 she pointed out the smaller size and the zoom lens and it’s prospects for being a perfect travel camera for her. Of course I agreed, not mentioning it had been in my B&H wishlist for a few months. So much easier to buy new kit when your wife asks.

It is a fun little camera and I like that the menu system is the same as my M10R and SL2. My first foray into M43. The DNG image files look fabulous. And I love the tiny flash! Gonna’ be a hoot to use during this year’s busy travel.

Today I was ready to buy, but B&H was out of stock.  I called the closest brick-and-mortar store and the guy at the counter said that they have only received 2 D-Lux 8s since they were released -- and they have quite a wait-list.  He suggestion was that if I find one in stock somewhere, I should jump on it.  I asked if that would void the warranty.

Mike's showed some in stock, so I called the Sacramento store.  They said there were none in the California stores, but that there were six in stock in the Colorado stores.  I changed that to five in stock.  🙂
