iLeica Posted January 5, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 5, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone. I'm about to go on vacation out of the country in about a week and I decided not to bring my DSLR for portability reasons. I want to get a P&S camera, which I don't have. I'm thinking about getting the C-Lux 2 or the D-Lux 3. Can anyone with experience give me advice or point me in the right direction on which of these two to choose? Thanks in advance. Advertisement Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Hi iLeica, Take a look here P&S recommendation C-Lux 2 or D-Lux 3?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bill Posted January 5, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 5, 2008 G9. It's the most rangefinder-like of the current crop, and has a real viewfinder, albeit not a brilliant one. Regards, Bill
TEBnewyork Posted January 6, 2008 Share #3 Posted January 6, 2008 The c-lux has no manual controls so between that and the d-lux that will be a big factor. If I were deciding between two cameras one with and one without the controls I would substitute the Panasonic TZ3 as an alternative to the c-lux2. Like the c-lux it starts at 28mm but has a great zoom range going to 280mm. I like both cameras the d-lux and the TZ3.
iLeica Posted January 6, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted January 6, 2008 Thank you guys for the advice. Any other input between the C-Lux 2 and the D-Lux 3 as far as image quality and video quality? I need to make a decision in the next day or so. Thanks again everyone who has responded.
rob_x2004 Posted January 6, 2008 Share #5 Posted January 6, 2008 Only a week to learn the camera is cutting it a bit fine. Most who expect to get good results out of the box seem to log on here a bit disappointed. If you intend to buy the DLux3 or its Panasonic equivalent for half the price I would be out buying it tomorrow, or this morning depending whichever is soonest. That is why it is bigger and you have a bigger and better lens on the dlux. I am pretty sure on the the c-lux like a lot of other of the small pannys that at each focal length there are really only two apertures, wide open and closed down. The d-lux3 is about a half stop faster when zoomed. The d-lux gives you RAW. If I had to chose one as my compact, and owned a dslr then I would chose the d-lux. If you are content with just making adjustments through scene modes and EV then the c-lux will be fine.
stuny Posted January 6, 2008 Share #7 Posted January 6, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) John - Used within its limitations, the C-Lux-2 (Panasonic FX07) is remarkably good, and has the benefit of being so tiny you can carry it anywhere. See the New York pages on our site, starting in the second half of the 4th page. Almost all the photos are with that camera. That being said, one of the greatest limitations is having to accept the fully automatic operation. The D-Lux lets you go fully automatic, partially so, or fully manual. If you can go the price difference, and the size is acceptable, the D-Lux is no doubt the better choice. Some on the Forum have even attached an optical viewfinder.
