Elliot Harper Posted February 6 Share #1  Posted February 6 Advertisement (gone after registration) Finally it happed to me  on SL2-S The camera was perfectly fine until this morning, I tried to turn it on, nothing happened. It's like there is no battery in it. I popped out the battery and re-insert, nothing happened. Popped out the both SD cards, took out the lens, nothing happened. Inserted a new battery, nothing. Charging the camera with the USB-C cable, nothing happened. No lights would turn on, no back LCD screen, no top screen. At this point of time, should I assume it's a dead dud, and contact dealer and/or Leica for service? Or anything else I can try? Thanks.

hoolyproductions Posted February 7 Share #2  Posted February 7 Sorry to hear, I can't think of anything else you could try other than seeking service.

But I live in Canada. So I contacted the store they sent me a FedEx label letting me send the camera back to them and they will deal with Wetzlar Germany. I also contacted Leica Germany directly and they forwarded my request to Leica NJ and suggested that Leica USA will take care of everything. So which way is a better (fast) way? I incline to believe that letting the store where I brought the camera from to handle it is a better way. Any suggestions or past experience?
LocalHero1953 Posted February 7 Share #4 Â Posted February 7 Might be worth leaving the camera a few days without a battery and checking its status again. There have been reports with other cameras of resurrection after a delay to allow an internal battery (which is charged up by the removable battery, and maintains things like the time) to drain fully. If that works, you may still choose to send it in, but it would be another data point to help diagnostics.

Either way will work, but I would be inclined to ship it to the store. They might swap the body for a working new/demo copy.
hellobrandonscott Posted February 7 Share #6 Â Posted February 7 You might find this thread helpful. I just went through what you did with one of mine. https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/383396-poll-sl2-sl2-s-system-error-fault/page/4/#comment-5708350
Elliot Harper Posted February 7 Author Share #7 Â Posted February 7 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for all the response. Dealer has sent me a fedex label to ship the camera back to them. They will take a look and send to Wetzlar for warranty service, if needed. Unfortunately they don't have any sl2-s in stock and not planning to order more. So the only option is to get it fixed. I just hope a quick turnaround, which I know is unlikely. Anyway, I will report back the progress.
Elliot Harper Posted February 7 Author Share #8 Â Posted February 7 I just got a response from Leica NJ, who offered to take the camera in to take a look. It's a bit too late, I have already dropped off the package to Fedex to be shipped to the dealer in Europe. Besides, I had to pay the shipping myself if I opted to ship to Leica NJ. I hope the store will handle it quickly and nicely. I really like this camera, but it's just unfortunate this thing can die without any signs. Jean-Michel Posted February 7 Share #9  Posted February 7 Sounds like your European is providing you the best they can. Personally, and I have owned Leica stuff since 1968, I strictly purchase from local authorized dealers —used to be the defunct Toronto Camera, and now Camtec in Montreal. Nothing beats working with your very own local dealer, especially when the brand is one that is not sold all over the place,

Nothing beats working with your very own local dealer, especially when the brand is one that is not sold all over the place, I used to deal with Downtown Camera in Toronto a lot. But the service degrades a lot recently especially since a sales guy I had known for decades retired. I struggled to find a good dealer here locally now. I heard Camtec is pretty good, but it's still a 700KM away from where I live. I bought a lot of Leica stuff from this said European dealer, very nice and super responsive to deal with. I had no issue with them at all. It's just that this is the first time I had to go through with them to handle the warranty service. But so far, they are equally responsive and responsible. Within a few hours of email communications, I have already got the Fedex shipping label from them and the camera is en route now. It's just that I am a bit nervous how Wetzlar will handle that. I heard lots of bad things about Leica Germany customer service. They will get things done at the end, but it will just take months to get there. However the dealer assured me that the camera is clearly within a warranty service period, and based on their experience it should take a couple of weeks turnaround from Germany. I hope it's true. We will see.
Elliot Harper Posted March 4 Author Share #11 Â Posted March 4 (edited) Happy to report the Wetzlar got the camera fixed. They changed circuit board and refreshed the firmware. Now this couple-of-year-old SL2-S is like a new camera to me From the time I sent it to the dealer and I got it back from them, it took exactly 4 weeks. I was actually surprised by their quick turnaround. Edited March 4 by Elliot Harper
Olaf_ZG Posted March 4 Share #12 Â Posted March 4 @Elliot Harperwould you mind sharing cost of repair? Thanks.
Elliot Harper Posted March 4 Author Share #13 Â Posted March 4 Just now, Olaf_ZG said: @Elliot Harperwould you mind sharing cost of repair? Thanks. It's under the warranty, so it's zero cost. The dealer got a list of repaired items, that is circuit board change, costing 0. Â
