Will play with these at the weekend. The update not showing yet for me - in the UK if that makes a difference.
Advertisement Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Hi Goon525, Take a look here Leica LUX Grip. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
NigelG Posted April 3 Share #122 Posted April 3 I was able to order one earlier today for delivery (UK) but no store availability. I have a pair of 13 Minis and will see how much difference the grip/app makes to using a phone as an acceptable edc…

Goon525 Posted April 4 Share #124 Posted April 4 I had another email today saying they’re available by mail order in the UK. They’re not quite hen’s teeth. Unlike the leather case, which I’d like, but seems out of stock everywhere. If anyone has one they don’t want, let me know.

I was looking at the Fjorden site and there seems to be a few options for fitting - none that appear similar to the Leica version ( although Fjorden is owned by Leica as its site proudly proclaims) I know the Fjorden is about £100 less than the Leica. There are some conflicting opinions ( as there always are when a bunch of photographers get together ) Checking the Leica site their version still seems out of stock. Is it worth the wait and the extra £100 ( whilst I use Leica gear, £100 spend has to be justified - to she who must be obeyed ) As I said I use the app, more so than the Apple version and some form of grip would be useful Paul I think the price, if you deduct the one year subscription to the app, is roughly the same between Leica grip and Fjorden grip. It comes down to preference. If you want something slim that will easy fit in your pocket or keep permanently attached, then go for Fjorden. If you want something your hand can really grip ( but remember it is bulkier because of that), then Leica grip. Functionality using the app with either grip is similar. There might be a long-lasting issue. Having seen pictures of slightly tattered Fjorden after serious use, I think the Leica will look like a typical Leica camera after hard use - some scratching on the edges but no other problems. Comes down to personal preferences!
EnglishmanInLatvia Posted April 5 Share #126 Posted April 5 Has anyone explored the differences between the new 90 Thambar M and the old 90 Summilux M simulation? I used both on a small photoshoot today and didn’t see much difference.

I’m pleased that you mentioned that as I am used to a camera that grips well Having something that’s fits in my pocket is less important that having a grip that I can hold ( fat fingers ). As for quality I know that Leica (IMHO) produce a sturdy hard wearing product. You are right that once you take off the years Pro licence then the price difference is not as wide I also found the notification that it was back in stock ( 2 days ago ) in my spam folder so I’m on my way now to the site to see if they have any left thank you again

Goon525 Posted April 8 Share #131 Posted April 8 Has anyone using the latest version of LUX figured out how to adjust exposure compensation in Aperture mode? This is an important new feature, but I can’t see how to get at it.

If you swipe down on the horizontal line at the bottom middle of the screen, it shows EV to the right. Click on that and a slider appears below the horizontal line. You can then use the dial function on the grip to adjust the ev or do it manually on screen.

KingofGCSE Posted April 9 Share #134 Posted April 9 Hello - thanks for allowing me to join the group as a new Lux Grip owner. Went to London Mayfair Store to test drive one - they couldn't get it to pair to my iPhone 15 Pro Max, suggesting that it was still 'paired' to another phone, but it was nice to see how it felt in the hand. Anyway I ordered one online when they came back in stock a few days later. My new one also had the exact same issue of not pairing, saying that bluetooth wasn't switched on in my phone, which it clearly was. Even the store staff were foxed, and tried hooking it up via iOS bluetooth....(!) despite YT advice from Leica saying only use the app - anyway a tip from another thread made the excellent suggestion of checking that bluetooth was optioned ON for the Lux App itself in the main settings for the app within the iOS General Settings. It worked straight away, having already reboxed it up for return! Initial thoughts. It's more of an experiment for me, already having a small walkabout pocket camera, but I was intrigued to see if it would offer some different ways of making pictures. I have not gone Pro yet with the app, as there is a lot on offer with the basic app. Strangely, despite what I've read, the grip also works with the normal iPhone camera as a shutter release, (nothing else), and if you hold down the shutter button it records video. It also turned my volume down once - don't know how. I also seem to have access to lenses that I thought would be Lux pro-only, possibly as my phone has the newer camera. What is not well advertised is the way the scroll button works when you press it in, rather than scroll it. It basically cycles downwards through the functions immediately to the right of the image screen, which can then be scrolled for adjustment. Took me a while to discover this. It's a shame the Fn buttons can't also be used as L-R scrollers, it's annoying when you skip past your lens choice and have to go round all of them again. It would be cool for the app to allow us to temporarily remove (check/uncheck) certain options, such as effects we don't want to use, so there's less scrolling. It is great to be able to tweak exposure using the scroller in Photo Mode, rather than using my finger on the screen I the iOS camera app. I am assuming that this will also work with Aperture in the Pro Lux app, as I will be able to go full Manual mode, without ISO and speed being set to Auto. The 'effects' on the images, if you open them in the normal iOS Photos app are still there, but if you go to Edit, you will get the REVERT button option, which will basically put the image back to as it would have been taken with the iPhone, which was unexpected. Anyway, great to see how others are using the device - a shame it doesn't have an actual red dot on it...(!)

Goon525 Posted April 9 Share #136 Posted April 9 The app update seems to be taking its time to travel round the world. I don’t think your issue is with your 15 Pro Max. I’ve currently got my two buttons both set to lens change - one up, one down - which allows for speedier switching. That’s because none of the other options currently appeals, but it is handy. Genius! I had Fn1 with boring Ap/Ph swap-out - the up down lens idea suits me too. Thanks!

KingofGCSE Posted April 9 Share #139 Posted April 9 Well I just did an app update, having activated my 'Free' Year of Pro-Lux features, and to be honest, I preferred it as it was before. This one seems laggy, particularly when you view a photo just after taking, then, either close it or press the shutter to dismiss it - the screen goes blurry, then does a mini-reset where it works out where it is; most off-putting, given how well the rest of it works. Not sure how many of the Pro features I will use, though nice to have EV +/- in Aperture mode. That Blue-tooth is a battery killer too, I'm noticing! EnglishmanInLatvia Posted April 11 Share #140 Posted April 11 A reflection on using the grip and app for two months. I also own a Leica camera. I just find it easier for my purposes to use the iPhone in my pocket and attach the grip. I had sought a good grip for taking video with my phone for a while. Even made one from various parts. The Leica grip is excellent for photos and video - where I think stability is more important. The set up works for me as I can plug in a mic for video and compensate for the iPhone’s poorer quality audio. With pictures, I love the ease of moving quickly from horizontal to vertical with the grip. I like the lens simulations - they make me think about the shot I want - and I even like the effects, which I sometimes change post shoot. I’m really happy with my purchase. There are many Leica products that cost considerably more, like my camera!
