wondering if the heavy Vario Elmarit 24-90 put a lot stress on the mount on SL camera that breaks might be happened at some point of time as the 24-90 + SL combo mostly put on tripod for landscape photography?

Novoflex offer a clamp/tripod collar for SL, is it recommended from any members/users?

thanks for sharing your experience/thought.

The SL and the 24-90 were designed and announced together in 2015. The L-mount was launched only a year earlier (for the T). The 90-280, which is longer and heavier, has a tripod foot, so Leica were thinking in those terms from the outset. I've been using SL & SL2-S and both lenses since 2015, and the 24-90 is the lens most used, by a long way.

If there was any risk of breakage or distortion I'm sure we would have heard of it by now.

The 24-90 is a light and small lens compared to other lenses a mount has to cope with. It is just a standard zoom for daily use. Lenses of 500 mm and more weighing several kgs would be impossible to use if the 24-90 were a problem. As it is, it is wise to be a bit careful when using long and heavy zooms handheld in rough conditions, but otherwise it is not worth thinking about. On a sidenote, the R mount sometimes had to be adjusted after extended long lens use and being slammed around in Landrovers in rough terrain but the L mount is far more robust

I travel with my 90280 attached to my sl2s.

Its a heavy lens and ( to quote jaapv ) its always being slammed around in the back of my Land Rover in rough terrain.

No problems.

@swatch I think, as already described above, the 24-90 and an SL body are suitable and stable.  I use the novo flex adapter  for me 2490, not because I was worried about the mount connection, but for even weight distribution on the tripod

I hope this is not completely off-topic:
you can simply change the 90-280 to an ArcaSwiss...

Thank you to jaapv, Markey and Tapu17 about your experience with 24-90, particular the reason for better balance / weight distribution when put the combo on tripod which I think is a valid point.

Hope I can find a used one at good price.

Wish you all have a nice Sunday.

Yep!
The lens clamp or a lens with a built-in tripod foot is not really for weight and breaking, it's to center the weight of the camera and lens in the tripod head to avoid that the tripod tip over due too much weight forward due a heavy and long lens.

A very helpful tool not all tripods have is the hook on the center column to attach a weighted bag to rise stability to tipping over.
When i go out in the nature i usually carry a sturdy shopping bag to fill with sand/soil/rocks if i need more stability, while at home/studio a better and definitive solution can be used.

24-90 was basically my only lens on SL2 for nearly a year (I had 35mm Summicron ASPH that I bought with the SL2, but I have not used it except a few times), and I have never even considered that. The whole system is built like a tank. 70-80% of the time, I have used it on a tripod with RRS L-bracket attached to body. Invest in a good photo backpack or bag, for safe transport, and you are solid.
