I have to admit that i have thought about foiling my new SL2 (but not my Q2) for use in unsafe locations, the big L E I C A on it screams "steal me", but it depends what class a thief is, a junkie probably don't know the value of a Leica and would steal also a 30 year old Pentax, but more evolved thief (or cleptomaniac photographer) may know that Leicas are very pricy cameras.
I have a friend who bought a M10 for his travels in 3rd world countries and covered her with black gaffer tape what is really ugly, foiling is certainly the better and less invasive way.

As a rule they won’t steal expensive cameras in third world countries. No market to sell. They might mug you for your Nike sneakers.

You are basically right, but unfortunately some places in Europe become unsafe too ...
I travelled many places on our beautiful planet, half of South America, lived 14 years in Costa Rica, Africa and a bit of Asia and guess what where i was robbed the only two 2 times in my life: Barcelona and a highway gas station in southern France and 3 times i watched in a gun barrel in Zurich as i was in the wrong place at wrong time ...
However, as i wrote, it must be a evolved thief to know that Leicas are very expensive cameras and the sense of hiding the wirtings and the red dot has a arguable effect. May fool a on cameras specialised thief but attract a low knowledge thief as he may think it's a cheap camera and steal if for that.

That is why i use only cheap bags to transport my SL2 or Q2 and have cameras most of the time hidden inside.

If anything they will go for many buttoned cameras as they look more expensive and everybody knows Canon, Nikon and Sony. The same with cars. A friend of mine had a BMW and an office in the center of Amsterdam and it was broken into regularly. He bought a Ferrari and never again.

I've purchased a black skin for my Q3 43. I prefer the minimalist look and dislike the standard gray color.

The biggest problem with your mindset to express opinion that “Q3 is a toy” within creative / pro photographers who are making art with cameras.

it doesn’t make any sense, people here make photos and don’t babysit their camera for resell

Right, that's why Leica sells a version of a camera with a Mickey Mouse, one wrapped in a fake python skin, and, my favorite, the one that is ribbed for your pleasure. :)

May I ask where from? And the exact skin color name. Wonder if there are other quality places besides alphagvrd that sells this stuff.

I'm actually curious to know about the PolarPro BasePlate, if I may be so bold.

How are you finding the handling? Have you tried other grips and would be able to compare?

I have the JJC grip, which I think is discrete enough, but it definitely might be too small for bigger hands.

I look forward to your feedback. I can't seem to find any review elsewhere at the time of writing.

tbh I returned the PolarPro set - reason? I did not like the base grip at all due to size and awkward handling where the top part  of the grip was simply too short and I was forced to grab it in strange way which felt very uncomfortable. Sadly I had to return the whole set, since they do not allow partial returns (if purchased as set) - but, already reordered the polarpro thumb grip from B&H (black this time), and awaiting shipment of the PolarPro lens hood.

And for the base and hand grip... I went with the Peak Design Micro Clutch I plate and I LOVE IT! There is a lot of hate online toward that clutch and tbh I am not sure why?

The pros:

  • very minimalistic - very little as far add on of bulkiness
  • very light
  • easy to grab the camera on the go with added security feel when holding it..
  • I also added this funky small 3M grip I found online.. sadly poor color choices, but with the Peak Design Micro Clutch - it just works! - and no, I do not care about the aesthetics or whatever someone thinks.. my $$$$ and my way I spent it :)

The cons:

  • only one.. wish Peak Design designed the bottom plate with ARCA plate edges so it could have been easily used with tripod without adding ARCA plate.. but, I am not expecting to use tripod a lot so I can deal with the extra plate when needed..
  • no access to battery or SD card - well, no immediate access, but I do not care, because I charge the battery with USB C directly plugged to the camera, and I transfer pictures directly via USB C from the camera - so, really no disadvantage at all.

I started my Leica journey with the original Q3 (which I resold in the meantime) and had both the Leica grip and the PD micro clutch... and i actually preferred the clutch too!

Thank you for your detailed feedback.

For what it's worth, i quite like where you're at with your camera from a looks perspective. A little black paint on that little grip and you're perfect!
