I had my hopes up, only to have them dashed. A good friend has an R 21-35 lens for sale, and I assumed it was not ROM. It is however ROM.

I have an R8, so it will play nice with that, but I also have an SL2, and SL (Leicaflex). I am aware that the Leicaflex cameras are not compatible with ROM lenses.

Is there any way I can easily, and without damage, modify the lens mount to fit, even just to the SL2. The SL is a treasured hand-me-down, and doesn't see much use.

I searched but could not find anything that assisted.

There might be some exotic workaround, but I doubt it. I think the Leicaflex SL2 needs the second cam to meter properly, and I suspect that the mount on the 21-35 may be designed explicitly to prevent it mounting on the earlier cameras. I think the 21-35 was a relatively late R lens, and was only made in the ROM version (which does mean it also has the third R cam, so it would be OK also on R3-R7 as well as R8-R9).  The real expert on what hacking around of lens mounts may be needed is Doug Herr, who used to post here.

Thank you John. My post really is a case of me clutching at straws I fear.

Unless something is possible, I a resigned to either buying the 21-35 to use solely on the R8, or abandoning completely the idea.

Appreciate your input.

R lenses went to ROM in 1996, and the 21-35mm was introduced in 2001, so you are not going to find a natively compatible lens. I am not sure if it is possible to adjust it, but doing so would likely destroy the value and possibly render it unusable on the R8-R9.

Thank you as well Stuart. As I suggested in a reply to John, I've all but given up on the idea.

Is the 16076 perhaps the right adapter? And if not, why not?🫠

I think the OP was talking about the original film Leicaflex SL2.
