In the mid 90's I did a series on life in local cafes.  Leica IIIg w/35mm Summicron.  about 1/5 of a second on Tri-X.  The server just seemed to think the older couple so sweet.

I'd love to see a digital version of that camera/lens combination--even if it was a fixed lens.

I’m torn.  On the one hand the blur IMO adds character to what is a grab shot.

On the other hand I wonder how it would look shot on my Q at 3200iso.

Gotta admit, l love the ‘film’ look of many of my old images, and I still occasionally pull out my Barnack…but I’d never go back to film… I’d never give up digital.

I agree with the blur adding character. I think shot at high ISO and razor sharp the image would lose its character completely. The face of the server in the back being slightly blurred lets the viewer fill in the blanks with their own interpretation of what she's thinking. We can't quite tell if she's slightly annoyed, or lost in thought, or where exactly she's looking. Keeping these things from the viewer is an important creative decision sometimes.

I completely agree about the look of film and I also have no desire to go back to it. The slight blur in your image doesn't bother me at all. In a way, it kind of enhances it. What I was mostly referring to in my comment was that the size and ergonomics of the IIIg is so wonderful. I had a IIIf for several years and loved how it felt in my hands. The one thing I never could get used to was focusing with one side of the tiny viewfinder then switching to the other side to compose.

Yes...I would love to see a Q that was the size of a lllg but still with a full frame sensor.

Unfortunately I was relieved of it in a break and enter at my home about 15 years ago...along with the special edition 35mm Asph Summicron screwmount that Leica brought out in the mid 90's 😢
