Very good sharpness. Wide open, the lens lacks contrast, but stopped down to f2 or 2.8 brings on the contrast and better colors as a result. Bokeh is also good. Not particularly great or buttery smooth, but like many lenses, it depends on the background. I would say that it's an excellent value for money and totally capable of doing pro portraiture or landscape work, with the benefit of being excellent for video, as there is no focal breathing. Some will comment on its plastic construction, but the lens does not feel cheap. It's just not a Leica in the build quality department, but it's solid.

Photoworks Posted April 17 Share #6 Posted April 17 I have been using Panasonic S lenses for a few jobs. I got 18,50,85,100 The longer lenses are better than wide-angle lenses. All the S lenses are the same size and weight, all super light, quick focusing, and minimal focus breathing. You can see what the market is for these lenses! They perform very well in video. The image quality is comparable to the Leica Summicron lenses, and people say that they are the same optics of the 35 and 50mm. In the US the 50mm is now $275. Optical quality gets the big jump with the Summicron APO set from Leica. That said Sigma offers incredible value for its customers. 35 1.4 50 1.2 85 1.4 They are some of my favorite lenses. especially the 50 1.2
