Segal Posted January 20 Share #1 Posted January 20 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone tried PolarPro MagFlip Hood? I saw an ad for it yesterday, and it seems it would solve my issue. I often use my Q3 43 with a PolarPro Everyday Filter, and I must remove the hood when I attach the filter. The MagFlip Hood looks good in photos except for that hinge at the bottom. However, I am unsure if the magnets are strong enough to keep the hood from moving when the camera is in the bag or attached to a camera clip.
Advertisement Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Hi Segal, Take a look here PolarPro MagFlip Hood. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RobW0 Posted January 20 Share #2 Posted January 20 I have one on pre-order. Not sure when I will get it. I do not have a 43 only a 28 at this time, but might not be able to resist the next time it comes in stock at Leica USA.
citiesflicks Posted January 21 Share #3 Posted January 21 I do have it, magnets are strong enough! Way easier now to change filters. Only one issue with it so far, the original leica cover lense will not fit the new hood. If anyone find a solution please let me now.

If so, can you check if the filter works in the macro mode? As for the cover - I used Match Lens Cap on all my Qs starting with the first one, and I believe it is much more practical than the original cap. Awesome, thank you! I placed an order for the hood, and I'll check if it works with the lens cap once it arrives

BrassMonkey Posted January 29 Share #8 Posted January 29 Is this hood compatible with the thickness of genuine Leica Filters on the Q2M (yellow, orange & green) ? I’d be concerned as to whether the hood fully closes, as filter thickness may vary and this hood appears to be designed for PolarPro filters …
Segal Posted February 1 Author Share #9 Posted February 1 (edited) Ok, just got mine, here are some pictures. It works with the PolarPro Everyday Filter in Macro mode on Q3 43, and it is compatible with the Match Lens Cap I mentioned before, but the fit is tight - the Polar Pro lens hood is slightly bigger than the Leica's. I don't love the "PolarPro" engraving on the front, but I can live with it. The hinge rotates separately from the hood mount, so you can have at the bottom, at the top, or at the side if you want. It's a bit annoying because it moves easily and is never at a straight angle for me. But this thing does the job, and looks good, so I'll keep it Welcome, dear visitor! RobW0 Posted February 3 Share #10 Posted February 3 (edited) I received mine today. The otect cap works on this hood just like the Leica Q3 hood. Edited February 3 by RobW0

goldgranada Posted February 8 Share #12 Posted February 8 Nice equipment. Works great, ordered another today. Great design and worth the cost, for me that is. They are on back order as of 2/8/2025 with estimated shipment March 15, 2025. Best to get one ordered. For filter adjustments just open hood, adjust, close and shoot. Hood aligns as needed because the hood attachment to the lens is two parts and the rings have friction between them so once tighten to the lens you can adjust the hood accordingly to be squared with the camera body. Wasn't expecting that feature...but it does extend the overall length of the hood approx. two-tenth of an inch, not an issue for me.
BrassMonkey Posted February 8 Share #13 Posted February 8 +1 No problem with clearances when using Leica filters on a Q2M. Great fit & finish … it’s a keeper !
Snow Monkey Ambassador Posted February 10 Share #14 Posted February 10 I picked one of these up, along with the Shortstache filter (out of curiosity more than anything else). So far, so good. As others have said, it's easy to use and helps solve a potential problem. I also order the Otech Q-Cap, which I have not yet received. We shall see if it fits, but if so it's a fantastic overall solution, I think.

The otect cap for the standard Q28 hood? On the Otect site, there is a preorder for the Q3 43 version. I just want to make sure I order the right one. Dr. G Posted February 10 Share #16 Posted February 10 This hood is much heavier than I would have imagined. Build quality is fantastic.

I had asked them if they had any plans to make a cap for the 35mm APO, they said not this time because they were busy working on the cap for the Q3 43. I would say that the cap does not fit exactly the same on the flip hood as the 28 hood, but it is a very slight difference. I think this difference is because the metal on the flip hood is slightly thicker than the 28 hood.
