Jeff S Posted January 14 Share #1 Posted January 14 Advertisement (gone after registration) … in the SL2. Time for me to get a new battery, and wondering if anyone has experienced a change from the original BP-SCL4 to the new one. Any longer life…or other benefits? Guess I’ll also want to get a dual charger that can handle both; another expense. Still undecided if I want to upgrade to the SL3 at some point anyway. Seems the used market is flooded with SL2’s (nearest Leica store won’t accept any more), and prices are down accordingly. This would make for an expensive upgrade, for perhaps modest improvements, but a good friend made the switch without regret. Either way, I need a new battery. Thanks. Advertisement Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Hi Jeff S, Take a look here BP-SCL6 Battery Performance. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 14 Share #2 Posted January 14 I use both types. The 6 batteries can use the same charger as the 4 ones in my experience. Without keeping track I cannot say that I see much of a difference, unless I am using power-hungry lenses like long OIS zooms. And even then it does not make much difference.
framemymind Posted January 14 Share #3 Posted January 14 Same here. The BP-SCL6 uses the same charger. It feels like the SCL6 lasts a little bit longer. I only use the SL2 with manual M lenses, no autofocus/ tracking etc.
Photoworks Posted January 14 Share #4 Posted January 14 The new battery gives you about 25% power power, On the SL2 you will enjoy longer recording time before the low battery issue comes up. If one day you would like to use the SL3 get the new Battery, it will save you from the frustrating popup that it can be used with limits every time you turn the camera back on. BP-SCL4 is $275 BP-SCL6 is $175-195 2
Jeff S Posted January 15 Author Share #5 Posted January 15 (edited) Indeed, I ordered the new battery today, given the better price (and better availability), and especially now based on the confirmation that my current charger accommodates the new battery. Time will tell if performance is enhanced, given my shooting process. B&H is one day, free delivery for me, so that was easy. Thanks to all. As well as more opportunity( longer time) to shoot AFC, Continuous FPS before the low battery issue comes up. BP-SCL6 = less cost for more shooting envelope. Win/Win!
