Not hidden enough... SL3s, 500 5.6 / x1,4 ext

Amazing shot, such rich details, I also have 500mm 5.6 , but I have a question, does 1.4 extender degrade the image quality or it is still the same?

Thank you!

When i got my 500 5.6 i made some comparison shots with/without  the 1.4 extender in my living environment and compared the results in LR. Imo the differences in quality are negligible and the results with the 1.4 ext in use e.g for wildlife/birding are great. If you use it in wildlife like the shot of the heron, you can’t compare in the field….Seems to be a littlebit slower in afc, but i get shots i never would get without the extender using the 24 mp from the sl3-s and beeing restricted in cropping. Imo the Sl3s /500 5.5 / 1.4 combo is the first time i feel well equipped for long distance/fast moving objects / birds. I also tried the 1.4 ext together with my 100-400, there is for everyone without pixel peeping a clearly visible degradation in quality that i can‘t accept for my shots. That is not a well measured comparison like the guys from Miami Leica Store ore other people do but it‘s aligned to my needs😎 Would other combos like eg Nikon Z8 and a 600 give you better results?? I discussed that with a wildlife-shooter i met during the session with the heron😂 Perhaps, but i am tied up to Leica-the only equipment i want to carry with me (about 16 kg backpack) in the mountains.  Left Nikon when they switched from D- to Z….

Thanks man, I will order one as I want to shoot birds and 500 5.6 becoming 700 8.0 is a very nice upgrade.

Shed Light - The old Railway Workshops SL3S with 21 Super Elmar M. The old 21 SEM has met its limits with the SL3 and SL3S, I believe . It's okay on the SL3 and SL3S however its not holding together like with the SL2S. Its a bit sad when I think about what I can replace it with because its so light and easy to shoot with. This image was spontaneous and I barely lifted the camera to shoot. I wont be able to do that with the Apo 21 SL. The 21 SEM is a great lens and has continually come up with the goods.

Will you please elaborate on what the 21 Elmar is not holding on SL3s as it did on SL2s? I was considering the 24 Elmar at some point.

Im not sure about the technical name for what I can see in the files, but it's like the grain is degrading not holding up as it usually would, especially in the shadows. Maybe I am getting too familiar with the Apo's and Lux's? Images on the SL3 with the 21 Super Elmar are not as svelte as they are on the SL2S. I get a sense that I cannot work the images in Photoshop as I could when using files from the SL2S.
