Actually there's an odd kernal of truth in the original question here, it's not necessarily just about the operation or changing the operation of a camera it's indicitive of an almost Pavlovian response that has become an overwhelmingly large part of how many live these days since "smart" 'phones and screens have become such a pressence in our lives and the inability of being able to ignore their beckoning beeps and bells.

I got annoyed with this more than a few years ago now, tried to control the "addiction" but found it a difficult, annoying task, and ultimately impossible to make myself do........So after owning one since "iPhone Day 1" I walked away from "iPhone life" and got myself a so called "dumb" 'phone instead, ( a Punkt ). It has not been an easy switch to make because there's so much of our life now that's tied to the damn things, ( "you don't text???? Why not, weird....and so on ), but the fact that I don't pull a 'phone out of the pocket every few minutes to check on whether life has forgotten me has been truly liberating.

So yes I totally get why the OP bought this up, and I get why he would want to try to find a way to deal with it, unfortunately though I agree with others here in that the best way to get to where he would like to be in our M world would be a Leica M10-D or M11-D, it's what has worked for me.

I used to be into music production many years ago. Akai released a new product in their popular MPC lineup called the MPC1000 but it was grossly under featured compared to it's bigger and even older siblings. A developer came along some time after the MPC1000 was released and created the "JJOS" firmware. It transformed it into the product well beyond even what the music production community dreamed of. I hope there is someone in the Leica community with the same knowhow and desire.

As far as i know JJ didn‘t create the JJOS from scratch. There are different versions of the story but some say that JJ was part of the developement team of the MPC1000 and 2500 and he stole the code to develop it to his liking and now he`s selling it. Its kind of a moral dilemma to buy software that comes from that background but JJOS is the best thing that could happen to the MPC1000.

The MPC1000 and 2500 are the only MPCs that are hacked until today. The only other hacked MPC OS (as far as i know) is the Vailixi OS for the MPC3000 but this requires you to soldier new eproms into your MPC3000.

In part the 'snarky' or 'snide' response to the o.p.'s suggestion is not because it isn't a valid idea, but born out of the fact that Leica have a track record of not responding to much more valid firmware wants/fixes, let alone for a camera that is no longer in production, and that one can't even get a spare battery for (in much of the world). It's a 'when pigs fly' type of request, so best to find other, real world practical solutions to the problem if one can't, or won't get a D model.

I was repeating what others said about my responses. Nobody wants to know what my threshold is (I'd get kicked off in minutes). 😂
