costa43 Posted January 3 Share #1 Posted January 3 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all I've just picked up a Q3 as a compliment to my current kit and I am in the process of setting it up. My preference for focus would be to have it as AFC single point but be able to switch quickly to a face of my choosing when the need arises. Is there a way that a function button can be set so that when the point is on a person, I can press it and it starts eye detect without it going into a menu? Apologies if this is obvious, I have zero experience with modern autofocus cameras. Cheers Costa

LocalHero1953 Posted January 3 Share #3 Posted January 3 (edited) You can set a fn button so it takes you to the list of focusing methods, but not to directly set one. I’ve been asking Leica for this sort of toggle button (on/off, or direct switch) since the SL(601). It appears that fn buttons can only be made to go to a particular place in the existing menu, not to make a specific selection. If Leica made quick profile switching with a left-right gesture instead of switching to video mode, it would make a lot of tasks easier, including this one
aficionados Posted January 4 Share #5 Posted January 4 I would very much like this kind of function being able to be assigned to one of Fn buttons, so that I can quickly toggle through different focus modes, e.g. AFs AFc, etc, by just simply pressing that button.
costa43 Posted January 4 Author Share #6 Posted January 4 (edited) I’m surprised, I am a total autofocus newbie and it was the first thing I thought of. It seems the most intuitive way to use any automated camera nowadays. I mainly shoot scenes or people but don’t want it to start jumping around to random people or objects unless I ask it to. Yesterday when I tested it at home, I ended up using it in manual mode for static bits and quickly moving it into AF mode which had the face detection AFC set. It worked quite well but being able to switch to a function without an additional menu would be the way to go imo. Damn that’s a long time, you’d think they would have figured it out by now, or maybe they do not think enough people want it. Surely it cannot be that hard for them to write the software for it to select an item in the sub-menu. We have direct buttons for AFL/AEL and magnification already. Trankster Posted February 20 Share #9 Posted February 20 You could do this by setting up user profiles for different situations. My first profile is for my all purpose settings which i call Standard, Then I made additional profiles from the standard one. I also customized the wheel button for changing profiles. It is easy to switch profiles as needed.
