gbealnz Posted December 30, 2024 Share #1 Â Posted December 30, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) On a whim, bought the R 500mm lens, and it arrived today. I am no stranger to catadioptric systems, I have used them for quite some time for astro viewing and imaging. My query relates to how users mount the lens. There is no tripod mount on the lens which I thought there should be. While not a huge lens, nor overly weighty, having a tripod mount seemed to be an obvious thing, but no. Anyone overcome this at all? I am about to launch into a bit of DIY but figured I'd at least ask.
Advertisement Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Hi gbealnz, Take a look here Leica R 500mm Tripod Foot?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sandokan Posted December 31, 2024 Share #2  Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) The lens is so light, that there is no strain when the camera is on a tripod and lens hanging off the front. Normal optical Lenses like the 280, 350 require a foot, as the camera is much lighter than the lens. PS. Wish the McClunies "Happy New Year" from Ravi  If they are still your neighbours? Edited December 31, 2024 by Sandokan
gbealnz Posted December 31, 2024 Author Share #3 Â Posted December 31, 2024 Cheers Ravi, and I appreciate that it's light(er) but still might DIY a "base" that supports both the camera, and lens. No, moved a few years ago, packed the flying in, and we are now in town. I did run into Glen a month or so ago, not sure about Tom and Gaye.
