I agree about face detect being jumpy. I control it by reducing the crop size. It's not how I'd like it to be, but I can make it work.

I'm not that fussed by picking the wrong eye, but then I haven't used it yet for close portraits. At anything over a few metres I wouldn't expect the choice of eye to make much difference - well, it might to the photographer zooming in on screen, but probably not to a lay audience, who will be more impressed (or not) by other features of the photo. The main aim for such practical use is to avoid distracting errors; errors that are there under the surface but not noticeable in normal viewing aren't significant, in my book.

I still have my Q2. Must sell it. I prefer the Q3 for the reasons you like the Q2.

1. The play button is on the correct side. It’s a mirrorless camera. You shouldn’t have to lower the camera to play images through the EVF.

2. I use the tilt screen almost every day.

3. I don’t tend to need A1 level AF on the on a Q. For me it’s a casual camera. I’m not in a rush.

4. Same for the EVF blackout but I do welcome any improvements, it’s not something I cared about. I have blackout free cameras for when I need that.

The Q3 needs a joystick. Then it’s near perfect. I also like the 43mm focal length. I’d love a 90mm as well.

I confess to never having tried it but could you not press the play button while the camera is stilled raised to the eye to get playback in the EVF? One of the advantages of having the Play button at the top of the buttons to the left makes it easier to press. Or could you assign the function button near the shutter release (again, I haven’t tried this so don’t know if I’m talking nonsense or not).

My left hand is under the lens. My right thumb can hit the Play button without adjustment. But I admit I don’t use the Play button in this way - I use shutter button hold if I want to check a shot immediately.

Yes you are. I hold the lens. I like to have the play button where I don’t need to change my grip. I don’t check every shot but in a dynamic situation when I do, I want to do a quick check through the EVF and then back to shooting. I don’t need to be changing grip or lowering the camera. Some buttons, like the menu, can be away and would benefit from being less easy to hit. Buttons like play should be super easy to find. In an ideal world the top would be a joystick with the play button underneath. Maybe the Q4.

I rarely check images on the LCD. Especially outside. As long as I have an EVF I could nearly do without a LCD. That’s how much I rely on the EVF for playback.

One other thing is that now my Leica’s are mostly now VERY close to my Hasselblad’s in rear button layout. The play button is in the same spot on both. The dials are configured the same way. I use both systems a lot and it’s easier if functions like playback are consistent between them.

I also get other don’t care about this like I do. But you should. :)

You’re right, people should care about whether the haptics of the camera suit their style of shooting!

Personally, I have the EVF turned off and use it only if I’m changing a setting that I haven’t already set in one of my user profiles. I almost never playback an image, perhaps once at the start of the day just to check everything is working as it should and that the exposure is ok. When I had an M11 I liked that the button layout was the same but now I’ve sold it I’m more flexible about future button lay out

I have some sympathy with the OP. I went from Q2 to Q3 .I was drawn to the flip screen having not used one before but now that my Q3 has developed a fault it will probably have to go back to Leica and I am having a think about it's future.

My Q2 is still with the  dealer on a commission sale. I would ask for the Q2 back whilst the Q3 is away and then might  sell the Q3 as the improvements over the Q2 are not enough for me to keep it any longer.

I thought that the flip screen would be a good thing when taking photos of my dogs but they are of course as distorted when close up as my Q2. The screen too is hard to grip when wearing gloves and too easily slides back into position if I use it at a 45 degree angle. My thumb catches the top right hand corner of the screen which I don't like.

I see no improvement in AF over the Q2 for what I use it for, like the Q2 a bit hit and miss.

The colours in landscapes are generally very good with the Q3 but shots of my dogs  look a bit odd colour wise.

I am firstly an M user but like the Q for it's qualities .

I was going through old Q2 and Q3 images and noticed a difference in colors as well. The Q3 images definitely have more of a magenta look to them (similar to the M11). The Q2 colors are also occasionally a bit weird (sometimes picks up excessive yellow/red in peoples' faces) as well however.

A week or two later I'm still enjoying having the Q2 again. The only time I've missed the Q3 so far was on a picture I had to crop in quite a bit--could have used the extra ~14MP!
