briananna Posted December 14, 2024 Share #1 Posted December 14, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have recently updated my Leica Q3 to the latest firmware version 3.0.0 and Leica Fotos for iOS to the latest version. Upon taking a photograph in DNG-only mode while retaining the “Brass” look selection, I observed that the raw DNG file was, in fact, previewed with the “Brass” applied look when viewed within the Fotos app or iOS Photos app. However, it still appeared as a raw file when opened in other editors such as Lightroom. My problem is that I genuinely appreciate the “Brass” look and am seeking a method to export a JPG file with this look applied in full resolution. Given that the latest version of Fotos enables the post-shooting application of looks to JPG photos, I attempted create its JPG version that could be recognized by Fotos by editting the photograph in Darkroom and save a JPG file with the same name. My intention was to create a single “JPG + RAW” photo in Photos, which could subsequently be opened in Fotos with the purpose of applying the “Brass” look to the JPG. However, the application displayed an error message indicating, “Leica Look has already been applied on the camera. Applying another look is not possible.” Could anyone provide insights into how to resolve this issue? It appears evident that the JPG file was exported from raw format, as suggested by the error message. Therefore, it should not have any applied look, as indicated. It would be greatly advantageous if Fotos also permitted the post-shooting application of looks to DNG files. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Hi briananna, Take a look here Apply look in new Fotos app update. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Posted December 14, 2024 Share #2 Posted December 14, 2024 I tried something similar, by copying a jpeg (just an iPhone photo, not. Leica image) into the Apple Photos "Leica" album, and then applying a "Look" to the photo in the Fotos app. That did work fine. I also took a jpeg, downloaded into Fotos for my Q3 43, and applied a look as you did. I then applied a different look to the same jpeg but did a "Save New" rather than overwrite the same file. That resulted in multiple images in Apple Photos with the different looks applied. However, note that Fotos is not creating a new JPEG, it's just duplicating the original jpeg file and creating a new edited file on top of it. If you go into Apple Photos, you can revert the image and you'll end up with the original uploaded jpeg without the Look applied. (Note that this behaviour is the same as when you use any external plug-in with Apple Photos) Apple DNG+JPEG management is very clunky and I haven't played with that and the new Looks capability yet, but it might be some interaction that is causing you issues. briananna Posted December 14, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted December 14, 2024 @Corius Thanks a bunch for the tip on adding a photo to the Leica album! I had no idea it worked that way. By exporting the photo as a separate JPG image instead of combining it with its DNG file to create a single photo in Photos, I can apply the look successfully. I believe there’s existing metadata in the DNG file that stores the selected look, which prevented me from applying any other look again.
SnapshotGR Posted December 15, 2024 Share #4 Posted December 15, 2024 Can confirm. I ran a Ricoh Gr file through the app successfully. It even said the camera was a Ricoh gr. very useful for adding leica looks.

Hello: After you copied the iPhone jpeg to the Apple Photos Leica album, how were you able to apply one of the Leica Looks to iPhone jpeg using Leica FOTOS? On the iPhone, go back to theLeica Gallery in the Fotos app and you should see the jpeg you copied. Open the jpeg by pressing on it, then press on the circles icon ( black and white intersecting circles) at the bottom of the screen. That will show a list to the Leica Looks that you can choose from Select the tick Icon on the top right to confirm Choose "Save Photo" to write the modified image back to the camera roll, or choose "Save As New Photo" to create a new copy in the camera roll. Go back to Photos and you'll see the modified images.

This is where I am stuck. Must be some other settings I need to check.

If you upload an image from your Q3 using Fotos does it appear in the "Leica" album in Apple Photos? Have you perhaps got more than one "Leica" album? SnapshotGR Posted December 16, 2024 Share #11 Posted December 16, 2024 You cannot change a ‘look’ once applied in the camera, then transferred.

So not apply any look in the camera. change the look on a photo in the app and then save to a new photo. That way you can go back the original one and apply whatever other looks you want. Never ever override original, that’s my rule always, for any type of files Edited December 16, 2024 by aficionados
