Ramki Posted December 8, 2024 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I have an issue with the function button 2 in Q3. It was set default to Audio-Video setting when I bought. Now on attempting to change it to some other function, it switches on to Video mode every time it is pressed. Can someone offer a solution to this glitch please.
Advertisement Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Hi Ramki, Take a look here Function butons in Q3. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted December 8, 2024 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2024 Did you save it to your normal user profile?
Ramki Posted December 8, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted December 8, 2024 Hi, Thank you. I don't know to do that. Shall check anyway. Appreciate it.

I don't use user profile at all, I just set fn2 to whatever the function I like, and it stays there forever until I change it or reset the camera. p.s. profile is the most useless feature in Q cameras, the 2nd most useless function is video. Trankster Posted December 8, 2024 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2024 I find the profiles to be very useful. YMMV Save your most preferred settings including function button assignments to user profile 1 (menu page 4). Over time, you may come up with several profiles for differing situations. You can also name each profile. If you need to return to your preferred settings, just select the desired profile. See page 61 of the user manual. Occasionally, my camera returns to the default settings or I have made different selections for a particular shooting situation. It is easy to get back to my basic settings by choosing the profile.
jaapv Posted December 9, 2024 Share #6 Posted December 9, 2024 All Leica’s have profiles. Most ( not all now that I have seen the above post) users find them quite useful as they save minutes of setting up the camera to a specific use after each startup, even if it is only your preferred general one.

I do know what profiles are and how to use them. I just don't understand why I need it. Most of the features that ever need to be constantly changed are apertures, shutter, iso. What else do you need to change according to different photographing circumstances? I use apertures ring to change aperture, shutter dial to change shutter speed, and assigned wheel to change iso. I assigned center button of the wheel to change focus mode. What am I missing? Anything other than ISO, aperture, shutter, focus, that I need to take a good picture? One example would be be for street photography, you can set it so a touch on the back screen focuses & takes a photo very discrete, this is deep into the menu so having it on a profile is useful

Each of them has tweaks for ISO, WB etc and, in some cases, button and dial customisation. Edited December 9, 2024 by LocalHero1953

This will refer you to the menu item 'customisation', and you control the functions using short and long presses on the buttons. I expect you have accidentally used a long press on a button and changed its action. On my Q3 43 I generally avoid having multiple actions on a button - just one action per button. I find that a long button press then changing the action takes as long as making the change via the menu - and I have to remember which multiple actions I have assigned to which button.

I think it's also worth reminding people that if you do ANY customisation of the camera, particularly to the function buttons, you should immediately save to a new or existing User Profile. If you don't you will definitely lose all the settings at some point. Either when you inadvertently select the Default Profile or deliberately select another User Profile. On the other hand if you feel you can’t improve your photography and it is already the best, then use the instruction manual for lighting the fire. Reading the whole instruction manual won't make you a better photographer. I stand with my words: all you need is Aperture, Shutter speed, ISO, Focus, and occasionally white balance. (Framing apart because that's you, not camera will do) You tell me what on the manual that is not included in above list makes you a better photographer? All you have is just empty words, nothing concrete, detailed, like I always do when making argument. I know what you will respond, if any: read the manual. Sure, very elaborative, detailed, itemized response. 🤨 Edited December 9, 2024 by aficionados

What else do you need to change according to different photographing circumstances? There are also other parameters that are changed frequently, e.g. exposure compensation or if you want consistency in your photos, set the white balance to 5,400 during the day and 7,200 in the evening. Then there is the possibility to adjust black and white with contrast brightness and sharpness, so that a quick change is possible. The Q3 JPEG black and white images are very good. This makes it very convenient for individual users to create a user profile that can then be changed quickly and easily. Even if you take digital photos like analog photos, please do not portray the users of the user profiles as idiots.
