I have been using this new lens throughout the day in all kinds of different scenarios.
These are all taken at f/1.9 on a Leica M10.

The marketing material didn't lie.
There is a high amount of spherical aberration at f/1.9 that leads to a strong glow (similar to some of the fast MS-Optics lenses at their maximum aperture or the LLL 50mm 2.0 SP II amongst others).
Bokeh at f/1.9 is more of the nervous type with a lot of outlining.
Shooting into the sun, you will catch some flare artefacts for sure.

Personally, I think at f/1.9 it works best in dark scenes, where the softness of the lens can help tame the high contrast of the scene a bit.

At f/2.8 the amount of aberrations is surely lower. Maybe I will share some pictures taken at f/2.8 in the next post.

That fog image is so good.

Does this lens continue to exhibit glow wide open at closer distances? It looks like it does in your samples, but I wanted to ask to be sure. My LLL 50mm SPII only has the glow at longer distances, and I've been wanting a 50 that has the glow at all distances similar to the 35 Lux pre-ASPH v2.

Definitely also there at closer distances. 

When I am back home I will look for 1-2 close distance pictures.

All f/1.9 on Leica M10, I think they are all at or close to MFD.

Looks like a cheap attempt to smuggle a vintage design (without patent risks) using the reputation of a once well-known label. If the results at f/1.9 were even worse, you could at least promote it as an effect lens.

At least it looks nice, although the barrel design seems much too big for a manual F1.9 lens.

Looking at the specs and what is shown here (varying weights not matched by the real sample, 46mm filter size according to specs but E43 shown by Likaleica), this is all quite confusing and they obviously do not even know what they try to sell at the end.

Took a stroll today to assess the qualities of the lens, not to make art.  Following is a series of photos made with the M10-P.  I shot at all apertures, but f/1.9 and f/8 are posted here.  Top photo is f/1.9, bottom is f/8.  Please keep in mind these are 3-4 MB files seen on your monitor, so the resolution and other qualities are much better on the original files.

The lens definitely has a dreamy, "pictorial" quality to it wide open.  This does not completely go away at f/2.8 but is mostly gone by f/4

My overall impression is that this is a fun lens to use, depending on the price, of which I haven't a clue.  It could be an alternative to a 50mm Summilux-M if you use that lens wide open for the character.  Or it could be another lens in your 50 arsenal.  It would be ideal for making dreamy, pictorial-style landscapes and portraits.  

Ergonomically, it was not as friendly as a typical late-model Leica M lens, mostly the focusing ring.  A thumb tab would be a useful addition for the production models.  The lens was lighter (260g) than the current Summilux-M (337g) and Apo-Summicron-M (320g).  It felt well-built in this new condition.  I don't know to what degree, if any, it is weather-sealed.  

I confirmed that the thread mount is E43 with a 43mm filter.

I think it is nice to have as many options as possible when it comes to lenses for the M system, and with adapters, to the SL system.  It would be nice if the manufacturer could add electrical contacts.  My camera kept thinking it was a 21mm f/2.8 lens.

Hello there, I am responsible for the brand / marketing side of the project. Some of you may now me out from Leica.

Let me precise a couple of points:

- sorry about the battered packaging @Likaleica it was mine! The definitive one will be much nicer, this is a promise;

- drawing our inspiration from the historical Dallmeyer lenses, we tried to create lenses which will allow a nice cinematic look and don't display the modern razor sharp contrast at all apertures. To achieve that, we didn´t hesitate to go "back" voluntarily in the technique and for example have used single coating on some surfaces ;

- this is not a "trick lens". It is conceived to have a uniform performance throughout the image field and progressively go smoother as you open the aperture. It was designer by Leica veteran Lothar Koelsch.

We will also check on the weight question. There will also be a silver coloured version but with an anodised  finish. I should be significantly heavier than the black one. It could be the difference between the naked lens and the weight with caps and lens hood...but we'll check.

I will continue checking this thread and am happy to discuss.

It‘s certainly no big point, though the engraving of „1 . 9   2“ 50MM“ on the lenses front looks very crude: „1.9 2“ 50mm“ would look better.

From my experience with the lens it looks like you hit your mark, bull's eye.  The lens has progressively more character as it is opened up.  And the 15 blades aperture makes for very round out of focus points.

As you claim that this lens is designed and made in Germany, it should be easy for your to get an answer.
