costa43 Posted May 7 Share #206 Posted May 7 (edited) Week 18 - I’ve wanted to get into 28mm properly on the M for a while so I picked up a Color Skopar from Voigtlander to see how things go before I veer towards a Summicron/Elmarit. First impressions are that It’s comically sharp, possibly the highest performing lens I own on what is measurable. This one is of a theatre in Warsaw with the Palace of Culture behind it. pippy Posted May 13 Share #214 Posted May 13 (edited) 19/52. Brick-work detailing of the underpass for the Crystal Palace High-Level Station. M-D Typ-262, 28mm Elmarit asph v1; Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! According to sources; "The subway was a vaulted and tiled chamber resembling a Byzantine crypt; it was designed and built by cathedral craftsmen from Italy." Originally opened in 1865 the station was a second terminus created specifically to cope with the large numbers of visitors to the newly relocated (from the original Hyde Park Exposition of 1851) Sydenham Crystal Palace which opened in 1853. Tragically the Crystal Palace itself was destroyed by a catastrophic inferno in 1936. Due to falling passenger numbers the station was closed on a permanent basis in 1954 and was finally demolished in 1961. The subway, however, survived the wrecking-ball and although having fallen into considerable disrepair was subsequently awarded Grade II Listed Status signifying a structure which is "of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve it". As such it became the focus of sympathetic groups who were interested in restoring the tunnel complex and 'sympathetic restoration' works were undertaken starting in 2024. Things are still ongoing but the underpass was made open to the public - but only on specific days which are few and far between - in 2025; 160 years after it was originally constructed. It was open this past weekend where it played host to an Artist and Artisan Craft Fair (of considerable merit). In a strange way it felt like a privilege just to be there at all... Philip. I really will have to stay on top of she that place is opened up, it’s one of the few places around there I haven’t seen up close. I still tease my sister about her wailing in fear in the 70s when a toddler as she got terrified by the dinosaurs 🦕 .
