Within five minutes of boarding our Land Rover at the airstrip in Chitabe, Botswana, Andreas, our superb guide, heard vervet monkeys sounding their large cat warning call, and heard francolin ground birds sounding predator warning calls, he drove off road and found #1 waiting in a sausage tree. Leopards like to hang out in trees since it is safe, and it is a good place to drag their kill so they don’t have it stolen by lions or spotted hyena. In the case of sausage trees, impala like to feed on fallen “sausages”, and the leopard can spring down on them. The second & third images are from the second day, and the fourth image is from the third day. You can see more Botswana photos on the four Botswana photo gallery pages on our site.

Stuart- Great pics! Colors, mood and composition. Living in Southern Africa my main focus is wildlife photography over the last thirty five years. Leopards are probaly my favorite subjects.

Fantastic shots. What equipment were you using here?

Ben - Thank you. I used an 80-200 zoom with the APO 2X extender on an R8/DMR. We were 3-4 meters away for all.

Klaus - Thank you. We waited each morning until the feed-lot tourists were already out for an hour.

John & Ivan - Thank you.
