Anyone got any ideas? As camera bags get bigger they tend to get deeper and then suddenly your M is down a deep dark hole.

I’m looking for something to carry 3 bodies with small lenses at once. My Blingingham™️ Hadley pro can do that but its about twice as high as needed!

Apologies for the thousandth bag thread but I couldn’t see an answer. There’s a thread from 10 years ago on FM but the suggestions are pilot and Hadley, both of which are 20+cm high vs 15 on the domke. The F6 is recommended but it’s much more boxy than the F5.

Cheers!

Cut some foam to reduce the height.

Damn you and your intelligent suggestions! How does that help a new bag purchase?

While you're here, I've got a Blinginham 307 (I think) and I like it but it's got a plywood base which weighs a ton! Ever seen anyone making padded carbon fibre or similar lightweight bases?

No! Not sure how much a bit of ply weighs. It is a big strong bag with lots of canvas which I guess where weight is - I have one but too big for me now.

Yup. What about using modular gear cubes in a regular backpack? Three of these:

This was my exact thought to the foam response.. "DON'T FIX IT, HE WANTS A NEW BAG!!" :)

I know you called it out already, but I'd still recommend the Wotancraft Pilot 10L for 3 M/Q bodies and lenses. Not sure that 10L model existed 10 years ago? Anyway, I don't feel it's as tall as the Hadley and I have both.. Perhaps it's because the Pilot is more "floppy", or it could just be a measurement issue.

Another option might be the Ona Bowery, but I'm blanking on if it will hold 3 M bodies + lenses at the moment. You can find those used pretty cheaply as they were the "bag du jour" for a while ~4-5 years ago so everyone had one. Not a ton of extra storage at all, but they're great little bags.

I'll get you some photos here in a bit. I'm afraid I only have 2 M11's, but I do have 2 Q3's.. I'll just have to sub in a Q3 for the third body, sorry!

Thanks Brandon, you’re definitely on my wavelength!

OK, here we go.. M11M + 35 Lux CF, M11-P with CV 50 2.5 (relatively tiny lens), and Q3 43.

Pilot 10L.. too deep, you were right.. it's cavernous for the M's. 3 fit fine, but too much headroom.

Ona Bowery.. Too tight.. You can make it work, but ingress and egress with 3 at a time is annoying. Perhaps if you always carried one camera and the 3 only were in there for longer hauls so you weren't consistently trying to get 3 in and out it might work.

Pilot 7L - This is a great option.. 3 fit fine and it's far less headroom than with the 10L. It's roughly the same height as the Hadley Pro Small.

Overall size comparison.. including Hadley Small Pro and Hadley "Large" I believe for reference.

Left-hand side is Ona Bowery in front, Pilot 7L middle and Pilot 10L in back. To right right, Hadley Small (with extra pouch) and Large

I had the same problem with the Billingham 307, a great bag to work from, fits two M camera bodies and four M lens in pouches but just too heavy by the end of the day. The 207 is just too small for my kit. I thought about the sling type even asked Billingham about the sling type but not interested.

Although I don‘t use it that way, it is possible to stuff three M bodies with smaller lenses into an ACAM-7100 from Artisan&Artist (but it is very tight since the bag has a thick padding):

  • Leica MP with 1.4/35 Summilux asph
  • Leica M11 with 2/50 Planar ZM
  • Leica M4 with 1.5/28mm Nokton VM and light meter

On the street however I would load it with max 2 bodies. For that load I find it perfect.

I have many bags. The Domke seeks to swallow the M11 up. Ona seem to suffer similarly if you get allergen ones which make space for laptops  I do like the leather ones and the three smallest are nice but not for three bodies.

Billingham - sadly digital , small, Hadley pro and pro2020 sand the One. and the Leica M bag and a225 and a335

If I had to carry a  bunch I usually grab the 225 (I have the 335 but it's taller and it was sold to me as a used 225 so it sits. in a corner). I can easily  put three M bodies and 4-6 lenses in there or more if you stack. Picking the shorter flex pieces makes it easier to grab lenses. and then zipper from and  out side pocket hold a flash and other accessories.

My biggest issue is weigh. no matter what you put the cameras in when there are several things start to get heavy.  As far as height goes the 225 has an internal height of 190mm

Thanks guys I really appreciate that hard work and experimentation! I’ve gone for the pilot 7 as the acam although great did look a bit tight and I like to use the summilux 28 & 50 and cv 75/1.5 which I’d prob need the fire brigade to get back out!

Hey, the continuing bag conundrum........I love, well loved, Domke's and have used them for ever in most sizes including the largest used in cinematography work as a camera  "run-bag", I've a pile of them in various stages of deterioration now, but this year I did get the Wotan Pilot 7L bag and it is very good EXCEPT that the pockets for small accessories are very tight to get ones hand in to try to recover whatever lays at the bottom of the pouch, and it is not easy to open the pouches to look inside too. Apart from that I do like the 7L bag and have just used it for the UK trip last week with the M11-D and a M7 both with Summilux 35's bolted on and a 50mm Nokton 1.5 in a leather case too.......films and some other extras tucked away as well. It's not bad, but again I do wish that the pockets/pouches were more easily accessible.

The other bag that hardly gets a mention here is the Crumpler Proper Roady 2.0, ( https://crumpler.eu/products/proper-roady-camera-bag ), I've two of these and maybe they don't pack quite as much as the Wotan Pilot but they are really good bags that don't go for Domke's, or many other's, stupid prices now. I've used these for years, Crumpler also offers larger bag designs too but I like small......definitely worth a look / try even if used as a second bag........2x M's with lenses bolted on, maybe room for a small third lens, a iPad mini and a Kindle plus travel docs' would be a normal load for me in a Roady....They are not a deep as many other bags are now, which is a plus in my book.

Just to catch up on this, thanks to @nameBrandon I now have a Pilot 7 and it is indeed a great option. It could be a smidge less tall and a bit more wide but overall it is I'm sure the best solution for running 3 bodies at once. If I'm crazy I can still wear my Bellroy 2.5L hip back with a 2 or 3 lenses in addition.

Last time I went out with 3 bodies I took the Domke F5XB which only fitted two, most of the time I had the third in my hand but I was aware that if it rained I'd be in trouble and certainly when I sat down there was the issue of what to do with the body that wouldn't fit in the bag. I was sat outside a coffee place in Greece and I don't like plonking the camera on the table or wearing it around my neck as it can look somewhat ostentatious and certainly uber touristy. The Pilot is perfect, two in the bag, one in the hand when snapping and then all 3 snug and covered up when needed.

Thanks for all of the input!

I've just got a question about the ACAM7100...

Only joking🤣
