Howdy

I have a couple of M6s - .72x and .85x. I also own M7, MP and MP3 (soon) at .72. I was going to sell the M6s and buy either new or second hand a MP with .85x mag. Why .85?, because I like to use the M with longer and faster lens in low light e.g. 75 lux, Nocti. I'm now wondering if I'm better off keeping the M6s, but returning them to Solms and getting .58 and .85 mag with the improved MP glass.

My questions:

1. Does Solms still do the window conversions from M6 to MP viewing windows? How much does it cost and can one change the magnification e.g., from .72 to .58? Is the MP glass worth it in terms of imroved performance versus cost and time away?

2. How do people compare the .85 mag versus say .72 and the 1.25x magnifier? How well does the magnifier work with .85 and .58 windows?

3. How do glass wearers find the .58? What is the longest lens which can usefully be used and focused with this magnification. I find on the film cameras that I struggle with anything 28mm or wider on the .72. Perhaps a .58 would see me using my 28mm more frequently than I currently do.

4. Do folks with MPs see any advantages in the M6 combo - other than cost. One thing I like about the M6 is that it is significantly lighter than the MP, but not with the same construction quality. There is something in my head telling me I would be happier with the a portfolio of bodies comprising a mix of M6s and MP/MP3s, rather than all MPs.

The M8 is a ,68x magnification VF. So that is not relevant.

I use a MP 0,58 VF with my 35 and 25 lenses; and a wonderful M3 [with its 0,91 VF] with my 50s. I find this set up works very well. The MP VFs can be retro-fitted into M6/7s, too. I know DAG will do them. It sounds as though you have bodies to spare with the ,72 VF; you might consider just buying one the 1,25x or 1,35x magnifiers, as they turn a ,72 into a ,90 or even ,97 VF. Much less than paying for the VF conversions.
