Hello All,

I know this may not sound like a good question but I really need some opinions.

I went a little crazy this X'mas and bought 2 camera from eBay, Leica Digilux 2 and Ricoh GRD.

I got the D2 at fairly good price $600 but it is in fair cosmetic condition. I checked with the seller and she never had problem with the sensor so it means it never be replaced.

Well I am kind have 2nd thought right now and is considering return the Digilux 2 because of cosmetic condition. BTW, the seller agrees to take it back for a full refund.

Is $600 OK price for a fair cosmetic condtion D2? It does come with original box and all accessories.

I love GRD so I will definitely keep it. With so many cameras already, 1DsII, Sony R1, Digilux 1 and GRD. I don't know if I need Digilux 2.

Any suggestions or thoughts that you can share? Thanks.

I think most people who have a D2 love them and those that have parted with theirs have regretted it. I certainly would not part with mine. It has some quirks, not impossible to work around, but the images direct from camera are among the best thanks to the Vario -Summicron.

My humble opinion

Regards, Stuart

The price is not bad at all. What's the serial? The sensor replacing by Leica is still done on warranty, at least mine is underway now. I really miss the camera. Love the lens.

Play around with it, for that price it should be no problem to sell it if you want. Ask the seller for purchase proof, sale tickets etcetera. Might come in handy later on.

I agree with all comments, the D2 does grow on you and you soon appreciate it's qualities.

Don't worry about the sensor, if and when it goes, Leica will replace foc.

I bought mine with a few cosmetic scratches, when it went back for sensor replacement Leica polished out the marks. Mine now looks pristine. I bought and Olympus E410, I've been an Oly fan for years, to use whilst the D2 was away for repair. The E410 is a very good camera and I am well pleased with it. But I still prefer my D2.

Hello All,

Thank you all very much for the suggestions and opinions.

I took the D2 out for a field trip today to a local zoo and found it to be very easy to adopt and super smooth to use. I got a lot of interesting looks from people who carry a DSLR. :D

I will keep this camera and use it more. In addition, my Metz flash 34 CS-2 works like a dream with D2! :) Much accurate output compare with D1.

Again thank you all for the kind response. Happy New Year!

I parted with mine and I really regret it. Wish I could have it back.

Dump something else.

Mapotufu, as you no doubt have surmised, this group is very partial to this "mistake" from Leica. I love this camera. It is in many ways unique, a blend of M & R. Silent, small & discreet. FULL FRAME, digital rangefinder with superb optics at around $600. Give me a break! Don't sell it unless the ship is sinking & if that happens, take pictures! Happy New Year.

Hi there folks, just thought I'd let you all know that I, regretably, am selling my Digilux 2. It's a lovely thing, and has just come back from Germany with new sensor and full service, but my life is not allowing me to use it as much as it truly deserves (a tough job and wreck of a 300-year old cottage is stealling all my time). If you are interested in giving it a good home, search ebay for item number 220188702792. It will be a sad day when it goes.

Gez, sad! I hope you get some significantly better bids otherwise I would not sell it. It has to be worth more to you as a 'keeper' until you have more time. But why not use it to document your house renovation. Nothing could be easier with that useful bounce flash facility and a stunning lens!

Seriously folks... I know deep down this is probably the wrong thing to do (just as all those who have sold theirs and regreted it afterwards). But I have listed it now, and want to be fair to all those who have shown interest. Besides, my thoughts now are that the camera deserves a better life than I can offer it at the moment - I'd prefer someone to be creating beautiful shots on the street that use it to document my DIY struggles. I could keep it in its box until the work on my cottage is complete... but the D2 is a great tool, not a colector's piece to be shut away. And as one kind person said today, when I'm ready to devote more time to photography again, there will always be someone else looking to sell their D2... I hope. Erm...

Hi, I was the final bidder on the D2 you posted. Thank you very much for an excellent camera! I have mainly been working with a Nikon DSLR and an old minolta XGM, but got tired of lugging around all the extra lenses and flashes and bells and whistles. I am still using my DSLR for the higher res work but the D2 has never left my side, becoming the camera I take everywhere with me. The bounce flash option as well as the fact that it is totally silent are an excellent addition to the brilliantly sharp lens. All in all a great camera, I can see it getting a lot more use...

I have a Digilux 2 and i`m very happy with it. But some day i had needed a more available-light camera for shots on filmlocation. The end of my affaire with the DL2? I tested some other stuff but found no real alternative. So i got a nother plan. Today i`m further on happy with my Digilux 2 and have a Fuji F31FD with a little individual modding for lowlight situations.
