ChrisS Posted November 4, 2024 Share #21 Posted November 4, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.1 is a chunky piece of glass that I've grown to appreciate, although a viewfinder magnifier, thumb and hand grips are necessary accoutrements when using any fast lens. I will take it out and take a few pictures to test it before reviewing it. I love how it combines well with the M10. Welcome, dear visitor! If you ever become tired of some “swirly bokeh” then you may move to th 35mm f1.5 ii VM MC. This is what I did and I very much enjoy this lens. Other than that the 35 2.0 is the sharper and more satisfying lens. I miss it. Wish you great fun getting to know the system. There is nothing that beats shooting your very first Leica. I wish I could start again =).
rclompus Posted November 7, 2024 Share #23 Posted November 7, 2024 My new favorite Voigtlander is the 50mm f3.5 APO. It really is a gem of a lens just purchased from Tony Rose at PopFlash Photo in Southern California. It focuses all the way down to 0.35m. It’s a big step up from the VM 50/3.5 Heliar and on par with Leica’s 50/2 APO. It’s just a bit slower. Fred Miranda has a good review of this lens. It’s a small APO lens with almost macro capabilities. Highly recommended. Here is a close focusing image at f3.5 of lunch at a Virginia winery. Enjoy. Welcome, dear visitor! TAFFY Posted November 7, 2024 Share #24 Posted November 7, 2024 I shoot the 35 1.4 Nokton SC and the Nokton 50 1.2. I shoot mostly people and I'm very pleased with the results. The 35 Nokton gives a classic type of rendering which for me makes my B&W photos have a little more character -- both subject and background. The 50 1.2 Nokton delivers quite pleasing images wide open. I also shoot with 35 1.5 Ultron which is sharper and focuses closer that 0.5m (but I prefer the 1.4) and the 28/2 Ultron v2 which is probably the best VM lens I own for size and IQ.
andybiggs Posted November 20, 2024 Share #25 Posted November 20, 2024 Have recently bought the latest 50mm f2.2. Light weight and compact. Very impressed with results, used on a 240.

A Focus tab on the 50mm! I have both lenses and they are lovely, added a rubber band tab on my 50mm F1.5 in VM. Great recommendations.
J S H Posted November 25, 2024 Share #29 Posted November 25, 2024 (edited) I have the Voigtlander 50 F/1, 50 F/1.2, 50 F/2.2 and 50 F/3.5 APO. They are all great, but the 2.2 is my favorite. It’s very tiny and useable wide open with excellent mechanics and ergonomics. Great sunstars from F/2.8 on, which I really appreciate. I also enjoy the 50mm F/1 and have posted many samples from that lens in the dedicated thread here on LUF. Here is an album of various images from the 50 F/2.2: Voigtlander 50 F/2.2 Color Skopar Edited November 25, 2024 by J S H Fixed link 1

I don’t own the 1.5, so I can’t comment about a direct comparison. I can tell you that I tested extensively between the F/1 and F/2.2 lenses - the 2.2 is slightly sharper across the frame wide open vs the F/1 when the faster lens is set to F2. At F4 the lenses are equal and at F5.6, the F/1 lens pulls back ahead with a slight edge in sharpness and just slightly lower color aberrations. With that said, the 50 F/1 is a very sharp lens, so it’s amazing that the tiny 2.2 can compete on any level. I suspect the 2.2 is at least as good as the F/1.5 lens when compared at shared apertures. 1

I would also add that of the lenses I mentioned, the Voigtlander 50 F/1.2 is maybe the best intersection of speed, size and performance, if you need something faster than 2.2. It’s noticeably larger than the 2.2, but nowhere near as large as the F/1.
