mikelevitt Posted October 26, 2024 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I bought a Kolari 006 with the more expensive glass because I couldn't find one with a Leica replaced sensor. A year or so later, I found one with a replaced sensor and bought it too. My non-scientific take on the subject is that I can't tell them apart. Seem to function identically in every way. Having said that, I haven't scientifically tested them because I am not a scientist. But I'm happy I have them both. Nobody is going to make any more CCD cameras, and I do prefer them to CMOS when conditions are right.
Advertisement Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 Hi mikelevitt, Take a look here 006 Kolari replaced glass vs 006 Leica replaced sensor. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
irenedp Posted October 26, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2024 I prefer my S2 color to the S3 and the M9 color to the M10r (or a used q2 I just bought). however you can make them closer by tweaking color temperature and tint in a certain direction

Now if I only had a good reason to shoot them all. Because I am working/shooting about 250 days a year, I don't have much time for my "fun" cameras. I did use the 006 on one editorial studio shoot this year, and it was spectacular. I also have an M9, bought it when they were new, and never let go. A clunky beast, but incomparable results. I am on the verge between and "fun and unique" CCD 006... and a useable, work-friendly 007 CMOS... I am a pro and I use M10r and SL2 but I would like to take it slow and simple... Could we please see some of the work you did with either body @mikelevitt and @irenedp ?

irenedp Posted January 19 Share #10 Posted January 19 There is very little -if at all- difference between the s2 and the S3. Maybe because the latter was tuned to look close to the former. Nevertheless I will. the gear doesn’t make you a professional or an amateur. Not even your level of skill although this matters a bit more. It is more about whether you sell your work -or don’t-. But although most would consider me a professional photographer, I would say that the distinction is subtle. Many if not the majority in this group display excellent work quality, akin o the highest professional level, however they declare themselves.

irenedp Posted January 19 Share #15 Posted January 19 (edited) Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Preparing a trip to Japan. Seriously, of course the gear is important because it facilitates work but what really matters is your skill (both in the take and in post) and your ideas and personal point of view. An S3 is better in some things than an S2 and so on and so forth but the gear is not the critical part of it. Pieter12 Posted January 19 Share #19 Posted January 19 One thing tha has not really been addressed here is, is there any difference between the Leica original, the OEM replacement and the Kolari glass sensor image quality?

Yes. My original post said I can't tell them apart. And I can't. No difference as far as I can see.
